Years earlier, when war still raged far from the North, in the Stepstones, Rickon Stark swore an oath to King Viserys I to strengthen the alliance between North and South. Summary

Rhaena was not sure she loved her, but what was she certain of at all?
Years of her life passed before her eyes; her mother's death and the loss of Vhagar to the enemy were wounds that remained unhealed for long years, and a part of her still felt the pain. Even then, Rhaena could never heal, with the looming darkness weighing on her shoulders when she was awake and her dreams haunting her when she was asleep. She could never mourn the mother she lost or the father she longed to forget, she could not rage and scream for the dragon she never found.
She wasn't given choices, she was given sentences.
