Summary
Mithian heard about Merlin long before she ever actually spoke to him.
In fact, the servant was one of her future husband’s very favourite topics of conversation – Merlin’s insolence, his laziness, his incompetence. Arthur scoffed and sighed and shooed him away, but he paid attention to Merlin in a way he didn’t any of the other servants, and despite the tension that stretched between them like a worn-thin thread, there was affection woven through it, keeping it from breaking. Merlin, lowly, incompetent, infuriating servant that Arthur claimed him to be, was important.
It was too bad, then, that Merlin did not seem to like her at all.

Summary
“How?” Mordred had stuttered, some time later, when they were out of Arthur’s ex’s house and back in the small two-bedroom flat Arthur rented nowadays, black nail polish-adorned hands trembling around the meet&greet tickets. “These sold out in like, less than twenty seconds. H-how?”
“I have my connections,” Arthur had said, mysteriously, and Mordred had rolled his eyes and let it go.
Or; Arthur takes his teenage son to another concert. This time, he has ulterior motives.

Summary
It’s stupid, really. Dumb. The kind of mistake Arthur can’t believe he’d make.
He wades into the water without hesitation, a familiar cold rush that soaks his shorts and rashguard in moments, and waves to a couple of familiar faces in the shallows before he throws himself onto his board. He lets the waves crash over his head on his way out, distracted by the sun dipping towards the horizon and the gulls overhead and the memory of Merlin’s lips on his skin – it really is a gorgeous day, fuck.
Or it was.

Summary
She’s setting the flowers in water, trying to recall if she remembered Merlin’s favourite biscuits the last time she went to the shops, when the doorbell chimes. She glances up, a greeting already on her lips, but the shop remains empty. The door shuts with a quiet click as she watches, but there’s no one there.
Frowning, she half-rises from her seat to peer over the high counter, and that’s when she sees him – a boy a little older than Merlin, maybe 7 or 8, his shoulders and jaw tight and dirt in his hair.
“Hello,” he says, quiet and stilted. “My name is Arthur. May I use your telephone?”

Summary
Arthur’s not stupid. He knows people think bartending is a cop-out for him. That he’s wasting his time and potential tending someone else’s bar while he could be the one calling the shots, the one sitting in that office on the second floor, hiding shady dealings in the crisp numbers on the page. He could be, but he’s not.

Summary
A scant four hours after he finally makes it to bed, Merlin wakes up to what sounds like World War 3 happening right over his head. He throws back the covers and stomps across the room – which doesn’t take very long, his room isn’t very big – to throw the garret window open all the way and find – and end – the cause for all this ruckus.

Summary
Merlin adores being a doctor, more than he ever thought would be possible. He does. It’s fulfilling. It’s amazing.
The problem he never saw coming is that people at the club get reckless when he’s on duty. For some reason, knowing that there’s a bona fide medical doctor stalking the halls means that people think that this is their best chance to go nuts. Merlin likes that they feel safe enough under his watch to test their boundaries, but there’s also a part of him that hates it. He’s here to get away from work, not to have more of it, goddamnit.
---
He peers up at Lance standing over him, his own dungeon monitor badge pinned to his satiny shirt.
“Hey, Merlin,” Lance says, with an easy smile that just barely hides the tension underneath. “Could I talk to you about something for a minute?”

Summary
Merlin hadn’t seen his husband in over a decade. Truthfully, he hadn’t expected him to ever return, not after ten years of bloody warfare far away.
Except there he was, crimson cape like a beacon, arriving on the bright, golden day before the feast of flowers. Just in time to greet his subjects, to kiss his husband of ten years or of three and a half weeks, depending on how one counted, and then open the wine casks and descend into revelry.

Summary
“Arthur!” Merlin calls, waving as he strides over.
He makes it across the square easily enough, but Arthur doesn’t watch his approach with his usual smile.
“Who the fuck are you?” he asks instead, scowling.
Merlin’s steps falter, just for a moment. He trips through various explanations – he’s got the wrong person, Arthur’s lost his memories, Arthur’s playing a prank – before he, hesitating, takes a closer look. Because this Arthur is younger than the one he knows, the one he’s come to know. He is, dare Merlin say it, young.
“Wait, wait,” Merlin says, laughing. “Is this our first interaction in your timeline? Am I meeting itty bitty baby Arthur right now?”

Summary
They said the wizard of the woods could give you anything you wanted.
What Arthur wanted, more than anything, was to give up control. Let go of his burdens. Be calm.
The wizard's idea seemed preposterous at first, but what harm could trying it do? After all, it wasn't like they knew each other.

Summary
People were devout here – old folks, families with children, young couples, all returning faithfully every Sunday to clasp their hands together and pray with their eyes turned dutifully towards the Heavens. But part of the draw was the young priest, the one with golden hair and shining eyes like the most beautiful of cherubim.

Summary
Arthur pulled one of the carefully draped curtains back to look out the window, but the scene was still the same: No cars on the street, no tourists, no security guards. The street below him, beyond the courtyard and the heavy iron fence, was devoid of its usual bustle, but it wasn’t deserted. Instead, it was steadily filling with lumbering corpses; rotting bodies walking upright, roaming the streets of Arthur’s city, dead-eyed and slow and yet still utterly terrifying.
Belvedere pulled on his arm. “Your Majesty, we have to go.”

Summary
There was a guy leaning against the wall next to the nearest dumpster, long legs in black jeans crossed, a purple t-shirt stretching over his chest. Dark hair. He was rolling a cigarette but looked up to give Arthur a dubious look. "Are you supposed to be back here?"
"Probably not," Arthur muttered.
The guy pushed himself upright. He really did have nice long legs, the kind that Arthur liked to have wrapped around his waist, and he didn’t think he imagined the guy’s eyes following Arthur’s appreciative gaze. Or the interest that sparked to life in them.
Legs dug a lighter out of his very tight pocket and, tucking his cigarette into the corner of his mouth, said, “You’re a little older than our usual crowd, I have to say.”
Or; middle-aged dad Arthur gets roped into chaperoning his son to a concert. He ends up enjoying it more than he thought.

Summary
Nearby, lights flickered in the dark. Merlin didn’t know quite what to make of them at first – the lost traders from the caravan, perhaps? – but as he kept trailing after Arthur, he realized they couldn’t be. These weren’t the lights of lanterns or torches, or the warm, easy glow of fires. They were too bright, a ghostly white, and they hovered over the marsh, no bigger than two cupped palms, reflecting brightly on the night-black waters all around him.
Him, because he had lost sight of Arthur in the darkness up ahead.

The place is deserted. It’s New Year’s Eve, after all. Who in their right mind would spend it in a launderette if they could help it?
Except for Merlin. Yeah.

Summary
“Knock it off, blondie,” Gwaine says.
“Hey,” Elena says, still laughing. She tries to snatch her glasses back, but Gwaine holds them high over her head. When she stands, budging the heavy table, he hands the glasses off to Arthur, out of reach of Elena’s scrabbling hands, and Arthur laughs and slides them onto his nose.
And freezes.

Summary
The guard hefted his weapon when he saw them, unimpressed by their presence, and showed all his teeth. “You can turn tail and run back to wherever you came from,” he said, snarling, “or I can kill you.”
The Sorcerer stepped forward, sweeping back his hood to reveal the golden glow of his eyes. “I’d like to see you try.”
“Very smooth,” Morgana said, expression caught halfway between an eye roll and a smile.
“That’s me,” Merlin agreed cheerfully. He glanced over at Arthur behind his dungeon master screen, leafing through his Monster Manual. “What do I have to roll, oh omniscient DM?”

Summary
Arthur has been king of Camelot for months now, ever since Morgana tried to kill him and succeeded in killing his father. He has been a warrior and a ruler all his life, but nothing has prepared him for the arrival of the druid sorcerer Emrys, sweeping into the halls of Camelot to pledge his allegiance.
