Summary
Ryland Grace saved the earth about 30 years ago; For him, it's only felt like 8. Time works differently in space, however the loneliness stays the same. Of course he loves the Eridians, though the strangling desire for human connection has only worsened as he’s grown older— and not aged. Erid's keeping its savior alive, and Ryland hates it. It manifests into dreams, sick and cruel dreams of a man who could give Ryland everything he ever wanted.
So after eight years on Erid, he, Rocky, and Adrian embark on a trip back to earth to bring back small pieces of it to Erid. Missing humans is one thing, but missing humanity is another that Grace still hasn't gotten over the betrayal of, so collecting samples and artifacts will do.
That is until they pass by Europa, a moon orbiting Jupiter that's said to contain oceanic life. A baseless rumor, one that Ryland heavily doubted, until he saw the bleeding red that erupted from it, and learned that the stars have died off. Life is fading fast, and it's due to whatever lurks beneath the icy surface of Europa.

Summary
After the stumbling events of fishing, Grace had dragged Rocky all the way to their shared airlock and burnt his arm, eyes, and lungs with 210 degrees Celsius ammonia. Waking up, he finds Rocky unmoving and hurt, and the probe filled with microorganisms from Adrien. He figured it would take a short amount of time to breed the predator, until he walked by the airlock window and found the sky empty of stars.
