“Fuck, Henry,” Alex groans, his hand slipping beneath Henry’s waistband, “You’re driving me crazy.”
Henry gasps, grabbing Alex’s wrist to still him. "Wait.”
Alex looks down, eyes wide with confusion, maybe even panic. “What? You’re not—?”
“No, I am.” Henry sits up, brushing his hair back from his forehead. “But I’m not here for some ‘secret fling’ thing. I’m not just another hookup.”
Alex freezes, his usual bravado faltering. There’s a vulnerability in his expression that Henry hasn’t seen before. Maybe that was just wishful thinking on Henry’s part.
“You think I don’t care?” Alex says, sounding almost hurt. “You think this is just nothing to me?”
Henry searches Alex’s face, surprised by the intensity of his response. “I don’t know what this is.”
Alex bites his lip, then lets out a long breath. “Neither do I. But I want to figure it out.”
There’s a moment of silence before Henry nods slowly. He feels stupid as he does it, giving away his conviction so easily to something as precarious as Alex’s hands. “Okay. Then let’s figure it out.”

“It’s not about that,” Alex says, voice stable. He leans back in, still cleaning wounds, a crease in his forehead growing as he reveals more bruises as he wipes away blood.
“You manage to act like it,” Henry grits out, pushing through the pain.
“What the fuck does that mean?” Alex snaps back, but the withering look in his eyes is a stark different than his hands resting delicate against Henry’s body, and Henry can’t fucking think.
It’s a shock, then, when Alex’s voice comes in as angry, clear as day, “Who the fuck did this to you?”

Henry’s chest softens at her words and he turns to face her completely. “Oh. Is everything alright?”
“Sorry, just, there’s this guy at the bar and he’s been looking at me all night. My friends had to leave and I said I’d be alright on my own but he’s…he’s giving me a really bad feeling. I just think he might be less likely to try something if I’m with another guy, you know?”
