Summary
Luo Binghe doesn’t mean to reach out to Shen Qingqiu. It’s a combination of instinct, the force of habit, and sheer agonized longing that causes him to do it anyway. His physical body is safely ensconced in his rooms at Huan Hua Palace, where he has recently been accepted as a visiting disciple, but his mind—
His mind is on Qing Jing Peak.
He doesn’t even realize it isn’t one of his own dreams at first.
or: while at Huan Hua, Luo Binghe keeps sharing dreams with his shizun, and it doesn't take long to notice that there is something very, very wrong with Shizun's dreamscape

The road to destroying everything and everyone who has ever wronged him, to becoming the highest ruler so that no one will ever have the right to control him ever again - it will start as simply as ruining Gongyi Xiao’s life.
Compared to everything else he’s already done, this should be easy.

Gongyi Xiao raises one hand - Luo Binghe can see how it trembles in the air - and drags it down his lower face, as if he’s physically trying to force a mask back into place. He blinks rapidly, swallows thickly.
“This is better,” he says, and there’s a strained rasp to the edges of his words now. “This is better than-- than dying. I’m just put out of the way, where no one is ever going to see or hear from me again. I get to just live a quiet life. I don’t ever-- I don’t get to see Fu-shimei again. I don’t get to see Xie-shimei or Pan-shidi, or read the rest of the books in the library, or walk through the gardens, or-- but it’s not that bad. I’m just not relevant any longer. So what? Who wants to be relevant? I’m just not ever allowed to go back home--”
His voice splinters so terribly that he has to stop talking, has to stop breathing for a long moment. He hangs his head, as if to try and hide his face.
“Fuck,” he breathes. “Fuck, fucking shit. Goddamnit. This is such bullshit! I didn’t mean to get so attached!”

Gideon’s hood was down, her hair brushing Harrowhark’s cheek in an entirely offensive way as Harrow dragged them both down the hall to their quarters. Damn Gideon Nav for being so tall. Damn Gideon Nav for being built like a fucking brick.
Damn Gideon Nav for putting her life in Harrowhark’s hands, all because she asked.

Harrow wheezed and stumbled, tripping over one of Gideon’s dragging feet. Gideon groaned pitifully. Harrow’s stomach rolled. She fought down the urge to vomit.
Damn Gideon Nav for putting her life in Harrowhark’s hands, all because she asked.
Harrow was filled with the brutal urge to drop Gideon, to let her crumple onto the floor. To kick her while she was down. To punish her for daring to trust Harrow. Harrow was not a creature meant to be trusted. She was a cruel amalgamation of soul-swallowing ambition and bitter disregard for the lives of anyone standing in her way. She was born from brutality and lived by brutality. Gideon Nav knew better than anyone how vicious Harrowhark Nonagesimus was.
Who but Gideon had endured Harrow’s violence their entire life?

“You’re not here,” he said in icy realization.
“No,” Joonghyuk said again.
He expected Joonghyuk’s hand to lose the warmth, but he stayed exactly the same, as corporeal and solid as before, right down to those soft dark eyes, that full mouth.
“You’re breaking my heart,” Dokja said, quietly honest for once.

Kakashi, Obito and Rin live happily ever after. Or try to. (A story where Obito succeeded.)
Bookmarked by bazaarine

Bookmarker's Notes
Sasuke vanishes—not just from the roof of the Uchiha compound, but from the whole world. Kakashi’s left eye can see him slipping effortlessly out of the genjutsu. He takes a deep breath. In a house on the other side of the village, Obito and something that looks like Rin are sleeping in a bed which has room for him too. All his friends are here, and all his students but one, and there’s no war, and everyone is safe.
Kakashi lifts his hands to the edge of his mask. He feels the fabric under his fingertips. He’s worn it over the sharingan for years. All he has to do is tug it lopsided and then he can turn around and go back, and—Obito will know, but he can tell Obito what he always tells him, I just want to sleep, and it’s halfway to true. Obito will understand. Probably there’s no one else alive who could understand better.

Noct lifted his hand an inch, then let it fall back. Regis' hunger was a fog filling the air, pooling in the space between them, but Noct didn't know how to answer it. How much of the love he felt for Ardyn was tied up in this man, in the dim memories of a time when Noct ran down the gray stone halls of the Citadel and hid in desk cabinets? How much lay in quiet moments in the keep, with Ardyn humming an old folk song that died out centuries before, with Ardyn's hand in his hair as he slept, with his knifelike smile as Noct pulled off a successful maneuver in training? How much lay with the young man who walked into the same Citadel two thousand years before, who stole apples from a tree in a village buried under the foundations of Insomnia?
How much was true?
"Your majesty," Noct said, and gods, if Ardyn really had sent Noct to kill the king, those words would have done it.

Summary
It isn’t that Rhys is distracted so much as the fact that he’s overwhelmed, incapable of paying attention to anything other than the most immediate concerns. What it means, regardless, is that Rhys doesn’t notice when the door to Jack’s office opens, or when Jack crosses the room to lean on his desk — hands braced wide, no doubt, weight shifted to one side — but he does notice when Jack says, grinning audibly: “Wow. I go to one meeting and you steal my office, my clothes, and my favorite toy. Have I mentioned lately how much I love you?”

“I didn’t think so,” she says, and takes Rhys by the hips, pulling him back against her, and starts to move in earnest. She’s impatient, even now, and doesn’t give him a chance to catch his breath or get used to any of it, just fucks Rhys — steady and relentless and almost too much, so close to being more than he can take — and doesn’t bother to be nice about it, either. Rhys doesn’t look, but he knows that she’s grinning, that same half-snarl. It’s just so much — her focus, all of her attention on him, that firebrand intensity — and every time, Rhys thinks that he won’t be able to stand it, can’t take any more, and every time he does anyway.

“Goro Akechi,” Akira says, and, “the world,” and, “a battlefield.”
The switch to the Metaverse is like swallowing tapioca pearls without chewing, just externally: a little squishy, a little uncomfortable, a little hard to breathe. Luckily, it never goes on too long; it’s probably less than a minute before they’re seated not on leather sofas, but on rickety chairs in the bombed out shell of a building.
There is no roof above them. The sky is a bright and cheery blue, which does nothing to dissuade the fat raindrops splattering down. Akira stands up first, walks carefully to the jagged ledge where the balcony once was. Tokyo stretches out before him, a shattered wreck. Parts of it look wholly abandoned, and as though they’ve been that way for years: greenery sprouts up from ruined office buildings, towering trees stand triumphant over the frames of houses.
Other parts are simply on fire, smoke twisting up into the clear sky. In the distance, there’s an explosion, gunfire.
Ryuji says, “holy shit,” and that about sums it up.

The emptiness of his apartment reminds him that no matter how much he might get along with them all, how much they were coming around to him now and-- and making him feel part of them, the bonds of others would never serve him well. They were a means to an end, all of them. No matter what they'd lost. How they felt. The views they had on others, on himself-- all of that was just-- just--
Goro's laugh is as hollow as the rest of the rooms, perfect showpieces placed just right, and he shakes his head. No, none of that mattered.

Her father is a hole in her mouth where a tooth should be, still aching from the dentist’s pliers, forgettable for an hour, an afternoon, until she probes it with her tongue, sending an aching shockwave down her jawline.
In which Haru learns to depend on her friends and herself. (Spoilers through 10/11.)

Bookmarker's Notes
Is this the legacy her father left for her? She remembers tiptoeing around the house, doing her best to behave on days when his gaze would cut like a knife. Not that she really had anything to complain about, all things considered; she knew she was fortunate, compared to many children. She always went to bed with a full belly, and never had to worry about being beaten, or even being screamed at. But her father wielded disapproval like a weapon, and so she became pathetically eager to please.
Change is easy in a fanciful costume with pretty words. It’s harder, in the light of day.

Lavellan laughed. Dorian drew the breath in, startled. He’d heard Lavellan laugh before, but not like this, never like this—clear and bright as a bell, a hunting bird’s call, it was joyous enough that Dorian’s chest ached. He had chosen a place to watch where he could see Lavellan’s face and the pure delight there was plain. Dorian had never realized how unhappy Lavellan was until he saw that lifted away. He was beautiful.
“It’s over,” Lavellan said with a sort of dazed disbelief. “It’s over.”

Juno doesn’t trust people easily. Usually he doesn’t trust people ever. You give someone the power to hurt you, he figures, and nine times out of ten they aren’t gonna do much with it that you’ll like.

It's slow work. Every little cry of pain Peter has to muffle makes Juno tense and fantasize briefly about throwing himself through the nearest window. He wants to stop, wants to beg for forgiveness, can't think of a single goddamn way to make it better besides stooping to press a kiss to Peter's knee before tying off the thread again. Of all the people he could have picked to hand his heart to, pluck the vulnerable thing right out of his chest and give it over to the unworthy safekeeping of human hands, he chose Juno. Juno, whose track record with fragile things... leaves something to be desired.

It's actually not even that unreasonable. It makes perfect sense. But all Dirk can think is this is how it starts, and a parade of images is going through his head of people leaving. Jade and Jake off mapping out the continents of New Earth together, maybe searching for the missing sprites the way Jade always says she eventually will if they don't come back soon. Roxy and John taking off to find all the hidden alien laboratories the Empress left behind. Dave and Karkat, Rose and Kanaya, at some point they're going to want to go and hatch that troll orb of theirs, get started on the continuation of the troll species, and Dirk can't imagine he has any role to play in that. Terezi will finally take off searching for her missing girlfriend -- or whatever the fuck, he's still not clear on the details, there -- because everyone knows she won't be satisfied until she either finds her or her corpse so she can be sure, and Jane... whatever Jane decides to do, she'll at least always have her father. But Dirk? What the fuck is he supposed to do? Stay behind with the voiceless little chess people, isolated from everyone he cares about by distance yet again, maybe build some more fucking robots for company out of salvaged drone parts?
