Summary
I lived with this hunger long before the Hail Mary. This is nothing new. I’m fine.
Right up until Rocky asks another question.
“When last time you touch other human person skin, question?”
Oh. Oh no. “When I… a few days after I first woke up here.”
Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

Summary
I’d locked eyes with Mensah, looking like that. My energy weapons had deployed, without my awareness or direction. My targeting systems had identified her and Bharadwaj, quite insistently, as direct and immediate threats.
Maybe this is just a temporary, dangerous, system glitch, and a hard restart will fix me. I’ll just restart, comb through my code, do some debugging, find the corrupted files or whatever, and then I won’t indiscriminately murder my most trusted humans.
I should know by now to always assume the worst.
In which SecUnit is having some survival threat…response errors. And some…’targeting its humans’ malfunctions. And some…blackouts when restarting. I’m sure it’s fine.

Summary
What the title says. About 11 years ago (from my perspective; relativity is weird) I was launched into space onboard the Hail Mary to figure out a solution to the Astrophage problem. Now I live on an alien planet I call Erid, in the 40-Eridani system. Yes, I’m actually Ryland Grace. Ask me anything.
Also, can someone please tell me if Eva Stratt is alive? And ideally send me a video of you punching her in the face? Guess that’s a long shot, but it can’t hurt to ask.
---
Grace and Rocky figure out how to connect to Earth's internet from Erid. They may not have thought this through.

“Rocky not explain question?” asked Adrian slowly.
“Busy,” said Rocky, sheepish.
“Had four years on ship.”
“Busy then too.”
Adrian skittered back and forth, which I think equated to a human throwing both hands up in exasperation. “With what question?”
“Science!”
“Whole time science question? Four years!”
“Is much science in universe!”--
Rocky has neglected to explain some very important cultural context to Grace.

“Oh, just– that I had them, I guess.” Ryland says. He doesn't even really know where he's going with this. “None of my relationships were ever spectacular or anything. Probably because of me. My ex once said that I loved because I had to. I think I’m just thinking about how I'm gonna die without ever getting married or falling in love. Oh God– I don't think I've ever fallen in love.”
“This upsets you.” Rocky observes.

Summary
After saving Grace and nearly dying in an alien atmosphere, Rocky lays an egg before going dormant.
Turns out being isolated for years and then nearly dying will force biological imperatives onto injured Eridians, and this one leaves Ryland Grace utterly baffled.
Aren't Eridians supposed to lay eggs in clutches? Only fused eggs are supposed to be viable, but when Grace accidentally touches the egg with his bare skin while trying to save it, that's apparently all the genetic fusion required for life to begin.
Ryland Grace skips a few steps when it comes to making a baby, and I test the limits of Eridian biology.

Summary
In one sci-fi universe, humanity’s first effort at interstellar exploration leads to a colony ship, the Courageous, flying long beyond its intended mission to escape the influence of the political forces which financed its construction. In another, Earth is a long-forgotten memory and people of good will have to fight simply to avoid being devoured by the sprawling, decrepit, yet powerful political entity known as the Corporation Rim. Now, I ask you this: what if the people of the Courageous and the people of Preservation Alliance had that universe and its problems in common?
Or: that one time SecUnit meets the other most ace construct in the universe who likes rescuing people and things immediately go sideways.

Summary
The terms Barish-Estranza gives the lost colony are simple. Unconditional surrender, sign indenture paperwork for every adult and child, or they will eliminate all dissidents on record using a Combat SecUnit, and the killing will continue until they get their way.
The people of Esperia have no idea what that is. Barish-Estranza has technology that they have never seen. But they know they have to save the children. They pack the colony's children onto their one functioning ship, the Horizon, along with teachers and a barely adequate crew, and send them toward the wormhole that may lead back to the world that the Esperian colonists originally came from.
Barish-Estranza doesn't want to admit it, but they're unexpectedly missing their best threat.
And, onboard the Horizon, a child tells his teacher that there's a mysterious person in the machine closet…
