It couldn't; the morning sky had been clear, but even then there had been a certain feeling in the wind, and a general spirit of unease upon the deck. And then the clouds had begun to pile themselves up, slow and dark and undeniably ominous, and the glass already plunging low.
And now, with the sky gone black and terrible, the wind high and the sails straining, and the captain's brow having taken on a cast near as grim as the dark seething water, James could not shake free of a suspicion that he had somehow drawn it to them.

Fair warning: I have done shameless and premeditated damage to every version, source, and analogue of Hamlet from Shakespeare to Saxo Grammaticus and back again. This isn't meant to be the real Europe in the real 16th century, either, but someplace more akin to the fantastical version of it that we see reflected in the wavery mirror of Shakespeare's inventions. (Among the many other distinctions, both Denmark and Norway at that time were ruled by members of the House of Oldenburg, instead of the fictitious dynasties that Shakespeare wrote about and that I have unabashedly stolen.) Summary
When Leia can't come along on a routine mission, Han doesn't think much of it. He, Luke, and Chewbacca should still be able to complete the objective just fine, shouldn't they? With extra time to tease the kid over his very apparent disappointment.
But when the mission -- and the teasing -- starts to go awry, Han realizes it might be time for him to re-examine the hand he's been trying to play with.
