Later he will be so grateful Mama is the only one who sees. She tells him it must be their secret, just the two of them, always, and gives him ground rules, to keep him safe: when you visit, don't talk to strangers, don't go in public, don't ask questions of your older self, don't tell your younger self anything. You don't know what knowing the future might change. Don't ever tell anyone about it.
When Ilya says he's going to score fifty goals his rookie season, he's not boasting, he's reporting a fact.
