Mace Windu was many things, but a morning person was not one of them. Nevertheless, the Force had deemed the ass-end of dawn to be an appropriate time to drag him out of bed and into the gardens. Not that he didn’t enjoy the scenery, but after returning from a grueling diplomatic endeavour-turned hostage negotiation not even three hours ago, he’d rather enjoy the pitch-black setting of his room.
Still, he was a Jedi and, as such, Mace’s duty would always be to follow the will of the Force. Today, it decided to lead him towards the forested areas where two younglings were huddled together at the base of a large tree, sleeping.
Mace tended not to spend a lot of time in the creche, but he recognized the Kiffar child as his friend Tholme's unconventional Padawan. Quinlan Vos, he believed his name was. The other boy was a scrawny redhead with deeper bags under his eyes than most grown adults and the Force drew his attention to this boy in particular.
(In which Knight Windu meets five-year-old Kenobi and six-year-old Vos and, while some things stay the same, everything changes.)

Which, honestly, was not the best thing to happen to you when you wake up in an alleyway.
It wasn’t even, like, normal dust like that time he got buried alive under a building and he threw up dusty vomit. It was straight up gray dust that he’s like 87% sure used to be his internal organs. The whole snap and dust that Thanos had done seemed to have some real weird side effects.

Mainly, he hadn’t cottoned on to the fact that you spoke Kryptonian, at all. Your accent is distinctly Terran, but the pronunciation is unmistakable. One might almost say, practiced and recited to perfection.
The second reason is that he has no idea why you would proposition him for vegetables, especially root vegetables at this time of year—farmer’s son, and all that.
It’s only after a long elapsing of a silence drawing tautly weird, for lack of a better word, that Clark realizes he still owes you a response.
