Once upon a time, there was a boy who lived in a hole in the ground.
Kaz doesn't know how long he has been there. Time has stopped mattering after so much of it has passed, when there has been nothing to track each day with. There is no light in the cell and the guards don't bring him meals at any regular times. Keeping track of how long they have been keeping him there isn't a necessity. Not when there are more important things to try and fixate his mind on.

It’s all familiar words - Fjerdan nursery rhymes, prayers, commands from shouting officers, old drinking songs. The beat is listless, though; it drags and aches. Sometimes, he tries to reply to Djel, but the words fall apart on his tongue, tasting like iron and then nothing at all.

I had been incredibly skeptical when Ratthi had sent me ‘Midnight Eclipse.’ I knew what fanfiction was, I had seen it in the more niche entertainment feeds before. Never specifically for Sanctuary Moon, but I'd assumed it existed. That didn't mean I had any actual interest in it, though. When I had first looked at them, I hadn't liked them. The quality varied too much and a lot of them weren't finished, or were really short, or really out of character. And I hated that. I really really hated that.
This one was different.

Rogue SecUnit maintenance is untread territory. It is much easier to keep a SecUnit functional when it has access to the infrastructure it was built to use. Without access, you must provide your own infrastructure to it.
“You didn't have to do that. I didn't ask for an update,” it grouses.
You're uncertain what it will take for your SecUnit to realize its need for this infrastructure.
In which ART is just trying to take care of Murderbot, and Murderbot is just trying not to overreact (read: panic, have a flashback, dissociate). And they get mad at each other instead of talking about it. That’s the whole fic.
