He knew how to walk, once. At least he thought he did. He thought he knew how to run, too. But oh, those running days were over. Long gone, just like him.
Astarion emerges from the tomb after a year of isolation, and re-adjusts to life under the thumb of Cazador Szarr. (Or, how Astarion came to call his victims darling.)

Summary
“Astarion.”
Astarion opened his eyes, breath caught in his throat. His skin crawled, cock softening, as he met Halsin’s gaze in the dark. Adjusting took a moment. The world faded into focus in greys, doing nothing to assuage Astarion's panic.
It was clear that Halsin was concerned. He had that strange look about him. The same one he wore when Astarion dodged important conversations like what do you plan to do about the ritual, or are you all right?
It made him feel so… horribly seen.
Astarion can't push memories of Cazador away. When he wakes, Halsin is there to comfort him.

Summary
Astarion knocked at the door of Cazador’s office, waiting until he heard his Master say “About time,” before he pushed his way inside. He kept his head down deferentially as he walked slowly towards Cazador, dropping to his knees in front of him.
“You see? Perfectly obedient,” Cazador crooned, dragging his fingers roughly through Astarion’s hair to tip his head back.
He’d already heard the heartbeat, indicating there was another presence in the room; sure enough, as soon as his head was tilted back, the second man came into view. He was standing next to Cazador, frowning as he looked Astarion over.
“He’ll do what I ask?” he asked Cazador, walking in a slow circle around Astarion.

Although the Absolute has fallen, not all of the world's saviours are enjoying the aftermath. With Cazador left alive, Astarion has no choice but to return to the shadows, trying to escape the cruel clutches of his master. Raphael takes notice.

Summary
Astarion thought he'd escaped his past. Then he inherited it.
Summary: When Astarion learns that he has inherited both Cazador's title and his horror show of a palace, Astarion wants to ignore the whole mess in the worst way, but Gale insists they return to Baldur's Gate and do the paperwork to truly rid themselves of the last of Cazador's ugly legacy. However, the house is haunted and has its own agenda for Astarion. Between a bureaucracy more convoluted than the schemes of the Dead Three, corrupt Patriars who want Astarion to step into Cazador's old shoes, and a tax bill large enough to crush Waterdeep, Gale and Astarion learn that Cazador is almost as much trouble dead as he was alive.
Canon Caveats: Plausible as post-canon canon-compliant fic, with some magical realism and exceptions to strict 5e magic rules.
