There may be an afterlife, but there is no final version of the Silmarillion.

Galadriel and Celeborn, through the Third Age of Middle-earth.
There are ways to express the difference between you wanted and I wish you wanted in Quenya by adding the right affix. In Sindarin you must change the sounds of the verb itself, the feeling soaking into the substance of the word. What is the lenited form of grief, he thinks. What is the right declension for a yearning without a name.

Summary
One in the airs of heaven, says my brother, and one in the fires of the heart of the world, and one in the deep waters. His voice dances when he talks. These are the jewels the elves lost. A father and his seven sons came across the sea to find them, and all of them died except one, who still walks by the sea and sings. Sometimes I can hear him, and I pull my brother to the window and point. He says it is only the birds.

Summary
Elurín and Eluréd survive the second kinslaying as birds, actually.
~
Two sparrows sat upon an elm branch, sheltered and silent. They watched as a few Golodhrim emerged from the eastern gates of Menegroth, circling and calling their names. They watched when several of them found the packs, hidden as if in haste beneath a stone cairn. One of them left the packs there and went within, and soon after a tall Golodh with hair like sunset came out and stumbled to the ground beside them.
The Golodh seemed to be grieving. He clutched the packs to his chest with one hand, for the other was cut off at the wrist, and called their names; but they held still, very still.
They looked upon him and did not trust him: the Golodh’s garments were still splattered with blood, red as his hair.
The snow began to fall in earnest then, as the day faded, and the Golodh remained there, calling them until his voice was hoarse.

Summary
Fëanor said, “Why do you think the Elf who made Ilimbë loved her?”
Nerdanel did not castigate him for the absurdity of the question. “Because she was beautiful, I suppose,” she said; “and all the Eldar love beautiful things.”
“But better to make a beautiful thing than to be one,” said Fëanor; “you cannot convince me otherwise.”
“Nor do I wish to try!” said Nerdanel. “But why do you think Ilimbë loved her maker, then?”
Fëanor had never thought of that question before. “Because,” he said, more hesitantly than was his wont, “well — how could she not? She was made for loving him.”
-
Fëanor, newly apprenticed in Mahtan’s halls, does not care that Nerdanel does not like him. Her statues are nice enough, but he has far more important things to concern himself with than her approval. And he doesn't think she’s pretty.
A story about art, mythology, and learning what exactly you were made for.

F.A. 560. While the War of Wrath rages in Beleriand, the House of Olwë attempts to assemble a more complete account of the First Kinslaying than what seems to be the common version these days.
("I feel like we could have done a better job passing it all along in song. But it's so much easier to lament for murdered kin and lost ships than it is to, to… Lament for my niece's harpoon collection which she can't look at any more. Lament for my husband being kicked by a panicking horse and not seeking a healer until it was too late because he was trying to help people. Lament for my daughter's expression when she talks about the drownings. Lament for coming to regret a mass grave.")

Summary
There were many empty rooms in Rivendell. But there were many guests, too, Elves who had arrived in order to cross the sea in the same great convoy as Elrond himself. They were waiting for the last to arrive, and then they would depart, streaming across the wilds and plains of Eriador, over the Ered Luin, down into Lindon. With them would go history, wisdom, learning and memory: beauty and song. And it would not come back.
Among this throng, Maglor passed, perhaps, as a wild Elf, who had come in from the wilderness to make that journey with them.
-
At the end of the Third Age, Maglor finds his way to Rivendell, and must decide whether or not to sail West with Elrond.
