A character study on one of the most interesting characters in the FFVII compilation in my opinion, going through each era of the compilation from his childhood to post AC. Takes inspiration from both OG and the Remake trilogy.

“Obviously we all kill Akechi.” Futaba was red in the face. “Except maybe Sumi.”
“Well, duh, but who are you gonna fuck versus marry?”
Ren's late grandparents' house needed work. Out in the Nagano prefecture, it was far enough from civilization to feel like unrestrained freedom, away from lingering responsibilites and good decisions. Helping with repairs was a small price to pay for the ever-shrinking time they had together.

Modern-AU. Shinra Pharmaceutical Corporation has made its billions selling cures to the desperate. Their biggest breakthrough yet happened 13 years ago - when they were finally successful in splicing the newly discovered alien JENOVA gene into a human fetus. The JENOVA gene carried in donor blood can cure almost any illness, including old age, and the wealthy elite are lining up for a cure. The only problem? The current host, Sephiroth, is not so keen to give away his bodily fluids. Also, he's been having odd side-effects.
Can a pharmaceutical company use alien DNA to cure disease without any consequences? Can Sephiroth have a relationship that doesn't end up in someone asking for his blood? Will Cloud, the new kid at the edge of town, figure out why his strange neighbor keeps knocking on his door?
Actual Father-Son relationship (Vincent is trying), dysfunctional Father-Son relationship (Hojo is not trying), Sephiroth being an awkward weirdo.

It wasn't that he was suicidal. The job, the vices, the poor decisions—it was just recklessness, not a slow spiral of self destruction. Besides, he had to finish this case or he'd never be able to keep living with himself.

In the wake of Geostigma, Cloud, Tifa, and the rest of the team reckon with their pasts and try move forward in a world that seems determined to repeat history.
Cloud and Tifa are the central characters and pairing, but the story is told from multiple perspectives and focuses on other characters as well. Takes place around Dirge of Cerebus but diverges from that story and only loosely uses some of its plot elements.

Summary
