Dean is fine. The way he sees it, things are simple. He had a house and a family and food in his stomach, and now he doesn't. And yeah, that's a downer, but he's not going to let that stop him from being fine, because he's in control of the situation. He definitely doesn't need anyone to save him. Summary
Original prompt: Castiel is very straight laced, level headed and from a deeply religious family. He doesn’t believe in sex before marriage and has never had any problems resisting because even though he has liked girls in the past it’s never gone past friendship, never been attraction. Dean is all kinds of messed up. John sexually abuses him after Mary’s death and after John’s death Dean turns to drugs and crime and his self-hate gets so bad he cuts his wrists. But Sam and Jess find him and send him to rehab where of course Cas works. And when Dean needs a place to stay well what else would a guy like Cas do but offer his own spare room?

Inspired by Jennilah's adorable artwork of a tiny!cas-filled gumball machine.
Dean walks into his local bank one day and notices that someone has filled the old gumball machine with these tiny, wiggling, sentient angels in individual plastic packaging. Deeply concerned about their air supply and the fact that they're trapped there in the sun, he starts pumping in quarters to rescue them. This is worse than leaving a dog in an overheating car.
Now he's got forty of the little guys running all over his house, and god knows how many others might be trapped and dying all over the city.

"No one hates you as much as you do," Crowley told him once. That's Dean's whole M.O. right there. His two fundamental truths are that it is his job to save everyone, and that no matter how many people he saves it will never change the fact that he is 90% crap.
Dean knows who he is. Yeah, he's done some good for the world, okay, he gets that. But deep down? The person he is inside is still worthless. Dean will never be good enough, never be any kind of role model. He's never going to shake that, so if that's what this whole seven trials angelic bullshit is about, then he and Cas might as well hold hands and drive off the cliff now.

There’s love there, affection, fondness, all in that haunted cornflower blue. They’re greedy, too, like they’re consuming every detail. Dean forgets to breathe. “You sure this guy ain’t dead?” he manages. “Cause you’re looking at me like the last time you saw his mug was ten years ago.”
Mystery Man inhales sharply but doesn’t so much as blink. “He’s very much alive. He made pancakes this morning.” No further elaboration.

“I suppose you could say I’m your guardian angel,” the man murmurs. His breath fogs pale between them. All of him is unnaturally warm, like Dean’s touching somebody with the sun sewn up beneath their skin. “I have known you, Dean Winchester, for a very long time.”

What might help with that stress is a little phone number (and a big credit card bill). If he can't figure out how to be bisexual in person, he can at least give it a go over the phone, right?

Cas looks at him like his heart is breaking. “You prayed my name to every angel in Heaven for six days straight.”

Summary
For all the sex Dean had in his lifetime, none of it came close to how it was with Cas. Truly, none of them are in the same category as Cas. In Dean’s mind, there was a very clear and obvious separation between “sex” and “sex with Castiel.” They were not one in the same, though nothing was ever on the same level as Cas in Dean’s eyes. They were just too bonded, too connected to one another.
Which made it even odder when Castiel seemed to drop off of the face of the Earth with no warning.
