"I realize," Salieri said, "you might be --"
"Nervous? No, I'm not nervous," Wolfgang said, and from a quick glance at his face, Salieri could see he was telling the truth -- not a hint of nervousness anywhere. No, it was his nerves that were acting up. Wolfgang was smiling, all stupid, as if he were waiting for someone to reveal that a practical joke had been played on him, and took a seat on the bed. Salieri wondered what he was feeling, if not nervousness, and suddenly it occurred to him -- he wasn't amused, was he? As if this were funny to him? And what a situation to be in! One giggling fool perched on the wedding bed, and another fool wondering what to do next. This was out of his purview.
