Summary
By the time they make it back to the apartment, Purpled has almost dismissed the incident entirely. It wasn’t his fault really. It was just dark and the stupid pavement had stupid holes in it and Purpled didn’t see it until he tripped over it. Nothing worth even remembering, he maintains.
Or at least he would maintain if his headache would quit stabbing his brain every two seconds as a reminder that it’s still there. It’s very rude. Purpled will send a formal complaint to the higher ups.

What was the kid doing outside? In the middle of the night no less.
This was normal behavior. This was a totally, completely normal thing to do. Tommy probably just… fancied a midnight stroll. In the cold and the dark. Or he was running away and was finally going to be out of Techno’s hair. (Or he had had another one of his nightmares, the kind where his face screwed up in pain and his entire body tensed up impossibly and he thrashed and kicked all in horrible deafening silence). He looked… He looked fragile, all knobbly knees and bony frame, like a fawn about to take its first steps. Well, maybe if the fawn had lived eighty lifetimes and gained the sunken eyes to match. Techno thought maybe he could see Tommy’s hands shaking.

Bdubs couldn’t remember how long he had been climbing for.
The inside of the monolith was decidedly claustrophobic.
It was cramped and warm and blindingly bright. He emerged into yet another one of these seemingly endless amounts of rooms. There was a clock mounted on the wall. It had five needles. Bdubs couldn’t seem to read even one of them. They shifted under his gaze, blurring and blending, as though they were always in his peripheral vision. He was pretty sure one of them was rotating the wrong way.
