Eddie shifts his weight a few times. “What does that mean?”
This could go a lot of ways. If this is Buckley, and Eddie’s pretty sure it is, it could lead to him hanging this over his head, trying to get sex out of it, and honestly – Eddie’s slept with people for less. And Eddie could do, has done, a lot worse.
He would hate being strong-armed into sex, but he’s been strong-armed into it before, and this guy, well, it’s not like he hasn’t thought about it.
“Um,” is all the answer Eddie gets.
And then there’s this meandering, endless pause, where the guy stands there and just… stares at him. Eddie can’t decide if it’s awkward or if they are slipping back into creepy. “What’s with the staring?”
“Sorry!” Sleeves immediately jerks his eyes away, then scratches the back of his head before he looks back at Eddie and snaps away again. “It’s just – uh, it’s weird, seeing you, um, without the…”
Eddie raises an eyebrow. “Handcuffs?”

Buck ticks the reason off on his fingers. “You got a ghost story looming over everything. No civilization for miles. The place is old and dark and, well, let’s be honest—creepy. The proprietor is an obvious drunk. That enough for you?”
Eddie scoffs. “You forgot to mention the incredibly off-putting gardener.”
Buck definitely does not smile. “That too.” Then, “So, I figure there’s something equally wrong with you.”

In their field of work, it was not an uncommon sight to find one of your teammates hunched in some corner trying to get their emotions under control or simply crying. It was a sight they were used to…It was an emotion they were used to…It was the crying they were used to. Having been at death’s door or seeing someone you considered and loved like a family so close to death made you well acquainted with crying.
So it wasn't the crying that was unusual, it was what happened after the crying or what had been happening for the past few weeks.

Summary
Tonight had been rougher than normal. All of his opponents had fought dirty, in ways Eddie hadn’t encountered in years, not even during his time in the army. As a result, the skin on his knuckles was bruised to hell, even with the protective tape.
He’d only started using the tape to avoid the visible bruising he knew would be there. But the side effect of that was that the tape dug into the skin on his palms and wrists, leaving streaks of blistering multi-coloured lines that decorated his normally tan skin with arrays of purple, yellow, blue and red.
Just like the rest of his body.
