Summary
“I’m sorry,” he repeats. “I screwed up. I didn’t think of how I was hurting you. I.. I was afraid. I was so afraid of losing you—of losing what we had—that I chose to break my own heart before you could do it.” In the back of his head, he questions the Sorting Hat’s sanity for the millionth time.

Summary
Sirius had been worried, then. Nothing he said in words, but he'd given him an awkward hug, pat his back, and pressed a kiss to his forehead. He'd looked into his eyes, questioning.
Will you be okay?

Summary
Things that cannot be explained away: bloodshot eyes, six-second counts for every inhale and exhale, and the fact that he cannot walk through his own Cave without flinching at the sound of the bats roosting above him.
(or, Bruce Wayne grits his teeth through seven doses of Scarecrow's fear toxin and deperately pretends to be okay around the Batfamily)

Summary
Bruce is poisoned at yet another gala and he calls for the only person he can trust enough to get him to safety, secret identities be damned. So why is he being taken away by some stranger and where is Superman?
--
Bruce frowns and tries to focus his swimming vision. Something isn’t right. This isn’t the bright blue and red he’s been mentally preparing for. The material is all wrong and it feels scratchy brushing against his skin. Superman’s suit isn’t scratchy. It’s smooth and comforting to touch; whatever he’s touching isn’t. This isn’t Superman, this is that stranger and his weird suit. It’s- it is-
“So ugly,” Bruce mumbles at the offending greyish brown fabric he’s got his cheek pressed against.- Language:

Summary
It was like living in the Twilight Zone. Everyone else believed fervently in Bruce Wayne’s reputation. He was a flirty, stupid, and entitled drunk whose only redeeming quality was his bleeding heart. And yet every time Clark spoke with Wayne, the man was clever, mischievous, and sober with an indecipherable ulterior motive.
And no one believed Clark. Not Lois, not his parents, not even Batman.

Summary
Swanwick gave Bruce a level, unamused look. "Mr. Wayne," he said. "Please tell me you know why you're here."
Bruce shrugged. "Won the lottery, and first-place prize is the government marries me off to an alien."
(Or: in a universe where Krypton took an extra thirty-odd years to implode, Kal-El was sent to Earth as an adult, in advance of the ship containing the only other surviving Kryptonians; and a quirk of Kryptonian law means negotiating refuge, potential resettlement, and an alliance with the Kryptonians in general is dependent on marriage between a Kryptonian and a human. Bruce did what it took to make sure that that human would be him, instead of some poor unprepared civilian—but his efforts to learn more about the aliens, what they want and why they're here, and how, if necessary, to kill them ... don't go the way he's expecting them to.)
