Summary
Whatever the two of them have isn’t a real relationship. Not exactly. At least, not in so many words. In no words whatsoever, in fact, because neither of them have started the conversation of what are we? yet, if they’re going to at all, which means that every time they’ve fucked has been in Iceburg’s office like it’s an affair to keep hidden from a jealous spouse.
Paulie wants more, craves it, but he says nothing. He just lets Iceburg help him clean up and offers the nervous smile he always has when they’re alone now - new, after everything with Cipher Pol, after the trust the mayor had put in him that he’s still uncomfortable with - and clears off like he’s expected to.
Again: it’s pathetic. Really, seriously, pathetic.

Summary
Lucci never got used to the dampness. It clung to his arms as he worked, crept under his clothes and covered his forehead with a thin sheen of sweat. The ends of his hair fizzled into an unruly chaos he so much despised, and at times it seemed he could not take a single breath of air without having the stench of fish and rotting algae sticking to his tongue.
The irritation was growing so overwhelming that he wanted to reduce the Serenissima Republic Acqua 7 to ashes, if only to get rid of that smell.

Summary
Kaku and Lucci were CP9's old guard. Past their prime, their reputed strength failing fast. They really should have retired years ago, but Director Kalifa just hadn't had the heart to do that to them, and now the inevitable had happened. Lucci was dead and Kaku was going a little funny in the head; a poster boy for what happened when a decent guy got too close to his partner and fellow agent, especially a cold domineering creep like Rob Lucci.
Fortunately there were younger, stronger agents with a good grasp on facts, ready to take a step forward and take the place of those old dogs of war.

Fingers curl around Lucci’s neck, but he breathes calmly as Kaku’s face presses ever closer. He pissed him off and now this is what his life is going to be for the next five minutes until he calms down. It’s not unusual, nor is it uncommon, for Kaku to get worked up over small things. What is weird is that he chose to do this now.
