“You did nothing wrong,” Eddie says, words firm but gentle. He needs Buck to know that, to understand nothing he did when he was four—god, he was four, so little and so new to the world and already having these terrible thoughts—would equate to his father’s attempt of murdering Buck for some twisted reason they may never know. “Absolutely nothing. When they land on the couch, beers in hand, Eddie’s face almost hurts from smiling. He’d known that he missed this, but hadn’t realized how much until he doesn’t have to miss it anymore.
“Oh! I have a surprise for you,” Buck says out of nowhere, cutting himself off in the middle of a sentence about his neighbor’s ugly garden decor. His smile, which had been bright and easy a second ago, turns sharp and teasing, and Eddie knows that Buck is about to do something stupid. “I was bored this afternoon.” He turns on the TV and starts fiddling with his phone. Eddie knows it’s going to be something ridiculous and over the top, because it’s Buck, but he absolutely is not prepared for what pops up on the TV when Buck connects his phone.
“Jesus Christ, Buck.”
Buck has the audacity to laugh in Eddie’s, now flaming red, face.
“Sex education is important!” He says cheerfully. “Ahem. Pay attention, there’s a quiz at the end!”
