Summary
Five years ago, Kelly Severide ended a relationship with hate filled words: Get the hell out and never speak to me again. Macy Brenner did exactly that—no calls, no letters, no accidental run-ins. She took him at his word and vanished from his life so completely it was like she had never been in it.
Now, she stands in his office doorway at Firehouse 51, asking for the one thing he can't say no to: a fire. When an accidental fire was falsely ruled self-inflicted arson, only he can prove them wrong, overturning the insurance claim. Three dads, two coolers, and one summer baseball tournament an hour outside Chicago. Kelly Severide, Matt Casey, and Jay Halstead have been doing this since their boys were old enough to swing a bat—carpools, concession stand hot dogs, and arguments about strike zones nobody asked them about.
