"Tobias,” he interrupted as his fiancé launched into a rerun of one of his favorite rants, “Everything wrong with Dancers who aren't Gabin”. “When are your parents arriving for the wedding?” he asked.
Tobias looked up from his ministrations of Gabin’s ankle.
“Oh, um. January third. They wanted to catch our last performances here, and then help set up for the wedding. And then after we gotta fly to New York and get you settled in for Whatever this is at MBT, and I need to start work on the new piece we’re doing, even though Jack is still fighting Geneviève on the legal stuff for that one.” He blew air up through his fringe in exasperation. “I swear these bureaucrats and their paperwork make it impossible to get any planning done.”

“So when we get to New York, what? Do we go directly to the wedding?”
Tobias shook his head. “No, my parents are picking us up. They’re very excited to meet you. I was going to book a hotel, but they insisted we stay with them. It’s cheaper too, hotels in New York are expensive. Figured we could save a little for our wedding.”
Gabin nodded, doing his best to hide the whole new set of nerves suddenly weighing on his stomach. Meeting Tobias’s ex was one thing. But his parents? His family. God, he hadn’t packed for this. All his outfits were geared towards making asshole ex-boyfriends jealous. They had better have good clothing stores in New York.

“Yes! And they loved it! And then he told everyone that he wants to stay in Paris!” Geneviève exclaimed triumphantly. “For Gabin! So maybe we don’t need our étoile back after all. You keep the incontrollable primadonna in New York, Jack. And I will keep Tobias in Paris. And then at least someone gets a happy ending!”
