When it happens, he doesn't realize anything has changed. When it happens, he is already so consumed by the Force within the vergence that his logical, critical faculties have been overrun. When it happens, he is running purely on emotional instinct.
When it happens he is fighting with Obi-Wan.
Not about anything “important”. Not about anything upon which the tide of war would hinge. Not about ensuring the security of the galaxy. Nothing like that.
When it happens, they are fighting about them. Or rather, Anakin is fighting about them – where they stand after years of stolen affection interspersed with cold distance, and Obi-Wan is shutting it down, again and again, attempting to shift focus back to their mission.
The last thing he remembers before it happens is sending a silent cry out to the Force, releasing to it the yearning in his heart with a prayer of reciprocation. Then darkness.
