Summary
When Merlin barges into the council chamber to declare himself a sorcerer and save Gwen from execution, no one believes him. So he does magic, obviously. Now, he needs to fulfill his gods-be-damned destiny while roughing it in the woods.
What follows is a mess of treason, underground sorcerer societies in the heart of Camelot, DIY home construction, faeries, talking Griphons, and all the joy I think the characters deserved just for existing. And some angst. Just a little bit.
Splits from season 1 episode 3 of the series ("The Mark of Nimweh")
***
Merlin had to admit, being shackled to a wall did help one stay awake. He wondered if it was late enough for him to break out yet; being imprisoned was boring, and his wrists were getting really sore. Watching a pyre be built wasn’t particularly entertaining, unless one enjoyed contemplating their own death in the single most painful way imaginable. Merlin may have had every intention of escaping and none of dying, but the sight still made his stomach go cold.
Merlin slipped out of the shackles and stretched his wrists, wincing, before putting them back on in a clattering panic when he heard footsteps down the hall.

Summary
Merlin loves being a pirate, but sometimes, being all alone on a ship gets a bit boring.
***
And so, the barfight (minus those two) had frozen: inanimate objects due to some magics in the air, human patrons through the much-less magical means of astonishment. Even those two in the corner, one of which had absolutely luscious brown hair, found themselves roll-punching to a stop as they realized barfights—and bars in the absence of fights, for that matter—weren’t much fun when everyone was dead quiet.
Merlin stood in the doorway, eyes fading gold. “Hey, sorry to interrupt the fun. I’m looking for a crew to keep me company on my ship.”

Summary
Merlin's bones don't feel like they fit. His magic is spilling out the edges. He can't sleep.
There are foxes in the night, nipping at his heels.
“I’m afraid you are close to waking, young Emrys.”
***
Self-indulgent and dramatic. If Merlin is too much magic, too much Emrys to be human, that's got to feel a bit fucky.

Summary
Arthur feels quite foolish, now, upon realizing that the invisible guardian force he’s been sensing and the peculiar haze about Merlin were one and the same. And that they were both magic, the whole damn time.

Summary
Percival knew the ups and downs to having power beyond the average man. It was a curse in his youth that brought about the contempt and envy of others. Even worse still was when he'd display his unorthodox strength and received glances riddled with fear. He had believed himself to be an outlier to his fellows. Made to be misunderstood and deal silently with his lot in life. Apparently, Percival's belief in his situation being unrelatable to anyone he knew was unfounded.
Or: Percival finds himself in an unlikely understanding with Merlin of all people. From sharing in their mutual grief to enjoying one another's oddities- a bond is forged that Percival is only grateful for.

Summary
They are in Arthur’s rooms, safely tucked away from the rest of the castle, when Merlin casually leans forward in the low burn of the fire and lights a candle with a flick of his hand – an action that would have damned him days ago and that still sends a strike of fear and apprehension through Arthur’s stomach. There is the fear and the magic, and the fear of the magic, and then there is the way Merlin’s jaw looks in the firelight.
It has been days since Arthur discovered Merlin’s magic – days since he first felt the brush against his skin. He is unsure, suddenly, which part of Merlin is which – what is the magic and what is the man (for Merlin has surely become a man). Just what, Arthur wonders, will he risk to find out?

Summary
In which Merlin wakes up and chooses violence, and decides not to rethink that choice.
Or: Merlin realizes that, if he's going to keep Arthur safe and keep his magic a secret, he will have to get a little bit physical. Arthur has to rethink everything in existence when he's suddenly forced to confront the fact that Merlin can fight, and is in fact, bloody dangerous
Or: The author randomly thought "Murder Twink Merlin" while re-watching the show, and decided it was his mission in life to make that a tag.

Summary
"After a night spent tossing and turning in her bed, Gwen could only see one path forward: she would keep Merlin's secret and try her best to save him from his own impulsivity. Merlin was one of the bravest people Gwen knew, but he was also one of the most foolish. Anyone who would walk up to Prince Arthur and call him an ass clearly needed somebody to watch their back."
AU where Gwen figures out that Merlin has magic early in season one, and realizes she's in a great position to make sure he and Morgana support each other.
