"Come on, let's get you out of here. We should try to get you cleaned up."
"You're still going to make me go to this thing?" Eddie whines, deeply offended.
"You didn't think you could get out of it that easily, did you? It's for the kids, Eddie!" Buck exclaims, continuing to drag Eddie along.
Eddie wonders, suddenly, if he could convince a doctor to hold him overnight for observation.
On the way out they see Athena by the front doors of the hospital. "Officer, I'm being kidnapped!" Eddie calls, with false urgency. The officer she's talking to turns to look at them sharply and Athena sighs and rolls her eyes, waving the other man off.
"You can ignore Firefighter Diaz. Trust me, he's exactly where he wants to be."
Eddie looks at Athena with an expression of outright betrayal, she's amused but having none of it—Because, yeah. Eddie is exactly where he wants to be.

Eddie's about to stand up from the table—to simply get the hell out of there, and wait on his Uber out of sight—when something unexpected happens. His people-watching-subject is now approaching the table, no longer sat at the bar.
"What the hell?" The man's piercing blue eyes are fixed on him.
Eddie goes tense, a nervous laugh bubbling out of him. He catches the mischievous quirk of the other mans mouth though and isn't sure what he's in for.
"And who the hell is this?" Blue Eyes whips around to face Eddie's date, eyebrow set in a firm line. Eddie wonders if he's a model or something in his free time. This was LA after all. Eddie makes a mental note to ask him if he's a model.
"E-ethan?"
"Are you sure about that E-e-ethan?" Blue-Eye's crowds into his area and sticks a finger in his chest.

Or maybe, Eddie is being a prude. That would make sense—it's just the religious trauma rearing it's ugly head. Only, if he were a prude, he probably wouldn't want to hungrily stare at the tattoo peaking out from underneath the tight leather that's hugging his right thigh. Another tattoo he's impossibly never seen before. Eddie prided himself on knowing all things Evan Buckley—so why didn't he know about this?
After an indeterminable amount of box breathing, Eddie gives a noncommittal shrug. And Buck takes the seat next to his with all the ease in the world, nonplussed by Eddie's off-putting behavior. He leans forward to flag down a bartender and flips his sunglasses up to rest over his snapback, and Eddie tries not to study the way in which Buck unfurls his body to lean across the counter, like he's an endangered species in a zoo. Eddie really tries not to study his profile in the low club lighting, he struggles not to stare at the obscenity that was his biceps or chest. Unfortunately, he fails massively on all counts.

It was second nature to save face, the lie poised on the tip of his tongue from a lifetime of hiding and burying himself deep down, out of sight, out of mind. It took Eddie a long time to break those chains, to escape from El Paso and all its expectations—to escape the pressure his parents constantly impressed upon him.
Eddie had to teach himself how to cut and run when necessary; that's how he'd ended up in LA after all—but that also meant he needed to be strong and unbreakable too—just the way his parents taught him to growing up.

“You think I’m pretty?” The words are slightly mocking, like he doesn’t really believe Buck is saying those words meaningfully.
Buck does, though—think he’s beautiful. From his stupid superman curl to his bitchy smirk—his giant brown eyes that could potentially hypnotize Buck should Eddie try—his nose, the beauty mark under his eye, the bow of his lips—Buck was gone on this beautiful man. The expressionless voice is unfamiliar and distant, the words nonsensical. It rattles away in his brain, like loose nails in a truck bed on an unpaved road. He reaches for them like they are a physical entity, tries to wrap his fingers and sluggish brain around them. Even as he fights and reaches, they’re eons away—but they seem to trigger some instinct in his body. Like a moth to a flame, he’s drawn to their magnetic pull, and the allure is temporarily strong enough to bring him out of his stupor. He comes back into himself slowly; the first thing that returns is pain. There’s a crushing, merciless weight on his chest; he flails helplessly—Buck isn’t sure which way is up.
Second is exhaustion—it’s the bone-deep sort of weariness that turns your limbs to lead and your brain to pulp. Each movement is like swimming through setting cement. Buck is half tempted to just let the tide take him to the abyss that surely resides somewhere below.

Buck is forced to go on a temporary medical leave after getting crushed by a flight of stairs. In the meantime, he works at dispatch while he recovers.
