The Avatar is dead.
The war should have ended with Sozin’s Comet. Instead, it became something else.
Ten years later, the Phoenix Empire controls the world through occupation, surveillance, and a system that tracks benders by bloodline. No element is safe. Under the guise of unity, the Empire has begun enforcing arranged marriages between citizens and benders; binding power, loyalty, and lineage into something it can monitor, control, and, if necessary, eliminate.
The resistance survives in fragments. Katara survives by refusing to look back. She does not think about the boy who believed in balance. She does not think about the war that never ended. And she does not think about the prince who chose the other side.
Some things don’t stay buried.
When her name appears on the Empire’s registry, survival is no longer enough. Pulled into a system designed to control power, and the people who carry it. Katara is forced to navigate shifting alliances, impossible choices, and a past that refuses to remain where she left it.

The School of Ba Sing Se trains the students from the four tribes - Fire, Air, Water, and Earth. From this school, the very best becomes the Avatar and would have mastery over all four elements. Within the walls of Ba Sing Se, relationships are built and torn. Betrayals scorch the hearts of students, and murder plots are hatched. Fire Lord Ozai has two children in the school who he needs to become the Avatar so he can rule the world.
Katara does not want to be the Avatar. She wants to be the strongest water bender the world has seen. She knows who deserves to be the Avatar, but he does not want it either. Aang is more interested in women than in his studies. And here comes Zuko. Everyone knows all Zuko wants is to be the Avatar. No one except those under his thumb in the Fire Ward wants him to be. He is calculating and demeaning. And he is always around Katara, no matter how much she wants to shake him.
Zuko would do anything to win his father's approval. He needs to be his father's champion. And Katara is proving to be a problem. A problem he could remove. He must manipulate her and knock her and her band of friends off the leaderboard. If he can do the same to his sister Azula as well, all the best.
