Deborah doesn’t expect what she sees when she finally works up the courage to lift her head. Incongruent; Ava looks furious, arms crossed, foot jiggling, eyebrows furrowed. Deborah feels swimmingly out of context, because Ava’s jaw is set like she’s about to throw a punch.
After the weekend in Montecito, Deborah needs to return to LA for a repeat surgery on the mass. Ava insists on being there with her through all of it. Some conversations continue, and some kisses are revisited.

Deborah begins renovations on her LA home, and it definitely isn’t because it gets her just a little closer to Ava, no not at all. So when she fires the painters over a difference in aesthetic opinions, really, her only choice is to ask Ava to come help.
“Here’s the deal, I’m renovating the LA house and the painters have fallen through. I’ve got a pineapple pizza, what the twink at the dispensary called a ‘pre-roll’ and walls that need painting. Can I consider you in?”
Ava might worry she was joking if it was literally anyone else, but it’s not.

Truth be told, she's not even sure how Ava had convinced her to spend the back half of her award winning night in some vaguely 50’s themed diner (the most promising looking out of several odd places open at 2am in LA). It was probably a combination of the buzzing high of finally being recognized by her peers, the sound of applause echoing off the high ceilings, or it could've been the several drinks she had been offered at the after party they had attended, or maybe Ava’s killer puppy dog eyes.
