Mikey turned back again - sinking down on his back. The glass blew into the pool above him, and caught in the light of the moon as it swirled down through the water. If he wasn’t about to die, he might’ve thought it was beautiful.
His ears popped. His mouth opened, and the water rushed in. Filling his lungs. Filling his skull. The house still laughed.
When he woke up, he couldn’t breathe. Beneath his bed, the floorboards creaked. The Paramour still chuckled.

Gabe might’ve been right; but the thing was, Mikey really didn’t want to take advice from Gabe right now. She knew it must’ve been complicated for him. Their constant swing of touch-and-go, the on-again-off-again sort of romance that left them swirling like tornados, tearing up everyone else in their path. Pete was the latest victim. The off-again period fell into a fling, a romance that was only supposed to reach till the end of the summer; at least, that was all Mikey had intended from it. A warm bunk after the exhausting days on the Warped Tour, and a body to keep her occupied until Hurricane Gabe rolled back into her life, where he always belonged. But Pete had different plans. The nights accented with poetry on his blog and whispers of a ring to tie it all together.

“You didn’t tell me it was your birthday,” there was a small infliction of offense in Frankie’s tone, but Mikey could only shrug her shoulders in response.
“I didn’t think it was a big deal,” Mikey wasn’t surprised Frankie didn’t realize it was a birthday party in the first place. Honestly, ‘party’ was a pretty loose word for the event. It was more just a gathering of friends drinking too much beer and listening to music a little too loud. Which was basically a normal Tuesday for them.

Frankie had had every intention of going out to eat. She was fucking starved after using all of her creative energy and the weed, but like hell was she going to pass up on an opportunity to hang out with Mikey. Alone. “I’m all good,” Frankie announced, despite no one asking. “I’ll hang here too.”
Gee didn’t question it. Whether she was oblivious or she didn’t want to think about it, Frankie didn’t know, but she didn’t stay in the room for very long either. Ray and Matt weren’t far behind her.
