After a horseriding accident leave Elain in the hospital with a mild concussion, she decides to pretend to have amnesia to see how her fiance, Graysen reacts. Instead of the concerned solicitation she expected, he throws his friend Lucien at her, claiming he is her fiance instead.
Realizing Graysen has been having an affair with her friend Celine, she plays along with the ruse to see what else may be revealed. To her surprise, Lucien does not seem to hate her as much as she previously thought, and the more time they spend together, the more she begins to wonder what more might exist between them.

Dedicated to him as I do everything I can to make him happy. I know myself and I know that is what I will do. I will do everything I can to ensure he is successful and satisfied. But it’s too late for that life. The Cauldron took that life. Now my life must be full of horrific nightmares, predictions of war or predators, and service to Courts embedded in torture and abuse.
No, no I cannot allow that to happen. I am resigned to living my life alone.
***Note: there are references to Azriel and his mate - she is an original character from my other story, "Invisible". She is present in some chapters but you do not need to read that story for this one.
