Tom laughed, in shock. “You?” This was the wrong move, he saw immediately. Patricia drew herself up, shoulders back.
“I’m so hideous,” she spat, and, oh God, she was just getting started, “that it’s funny to you?”
“No, no, no,” Tom said. “It’s just that, you know. We’re friends! You’re my employee!”
