Summary
Dick doesn’t know what to do - what to feel, what to think - his little brother is gone and there is no way to get him back. Or, not yet. They’ve been trying for days, for months really, researching and asking, calling in favors. Everyone keeps telling them how slim the chances are to get him back and some even say that it’s a good thing he’s back ‘where he belongs’.
They all did every fucking reading possible, every test, every venue and everything came back as clean. He would have been safe, his presence would have had no negative impact at all . He could have stayed with them, he belongs here! He’s family and he doesn’t deserve to be back there where he doesn’t fit, where no one cares about him and where no one has any regard for what a brilliant and smart and compassionate person his little brother is.
They tense when someone jumps out, another body slung over their shoulder.
Dick forgets how to breathe.

Summary
Jason hadn’t gotten to meet his soulmate before he died. That was a fact. Tim’s soulmark had gone grey for six months when he was thirteen, that was also a fact. Jason had returned from the pit blemish free but with the same soulmark. A bird just outside his cage, getting ready to fly. It’s a robin. Tim knows that and Jason knows that.
No one else knows, because soulmarks are sacred and to reveal it before you meet your other is seen as uncouth. Jason hadn’t cared and so, his soulmark was buried deep in the archives of the bat computer, but Tim cared very much so it didn’t make much of a difference.

“Robin, report“ Bruce barked out, seemingly forgetting that Tim hadn’t been Robin in over a year and would definitely not respond to it. The laugh his little brother lets out is chilling. It doesn’t sound like him at all.
“Not Robin anymore, you should know that by now. Call me Shrike, or you know, just say my name.“
Shrike? There’d been rumors of a new assassin within the league, primed and ready to take over should Ra’s want that, but it couldn’t be-…
“Tim! What happened?“ He wanted nothing more than to reach out and hug his brother, but Tim looked like a cornered animal, ready to make a break for it at any moment.
“Too much Dick, too much.“
And then Tim looked up and it took his breath away all over again. No- No! Not again. Hisfaulthisfaulthisfault.

Summary
There was a knife sticking out of his best friends back and Tim’s eyes were rolling into his skull as he toppled over and fell to his knees. It was a gruesome sight and Bart let out a terrified shriek to his left.
Kon listened carefully and paled. There was no heartbeat. He started doing CPR, praying to any god or god-like entity that would listen, to save his friend, to not let this be the end, before he ever got the chance to confess to the crush he’d been harboring for Tim since they were children.
Nothing.
Tears began collecting in Kon’s eyes. His friend was dead, his best friend.
Tim woke up.

Dear Journal,
Mrs Mac isn’t coming. She just sent a reminder that she’s off for the week at her brother’s place in Kentucky. She told me about him, last time she was here. I can’t believe I forgot.
But I guess my parents forgot too, since I’m still locked in my room. I have to start school on Monday! I guess I could always climb down the tree... I don’t have a key, so I can’t unlock it from the outside. Also, I don’t want to wait until Monday, I’m starving in here and I’ve drunk way more water than I usually have.

Summary
Jason takes his journal with him when he leaves and then it’s Tim who’s shaking. His book had been a constant in his life and now it was gone. He feared what Jason could do with it, with the vulnerabilities that were shared on those yellowing pages.
Two weeks later, Tim unlocks his apartment to find Jason sitting on his couch again, the book in his hand.
Slowly, he opens it to find the last 71 pages laminated. He can’t fill them. Worse, they are already filled.
He reads the first paragraph, full of praise and love and so much care and his sight begins to blur. Tears well up as he stares at his once-glorified suicide note.
The last page, he notes, is empty. He cannot fill it. It’s also laminated. He cannot kill himself now. He can’t.
The book falls to the floor. Jason opens his arms. Tim practically stumbles into them and sobs into Jason’s shirt. It feels like catharsis. It feels right. He feels loved.

Tim uses a book to write out all the mistakes he's ever committed, all his failures. He has a plan for when the book is finished. Jason stops him from doing something he would regret.

In any case, he escaped, was a real smart one too— used a plastic fork and some tape. I never looked for him, figured he’da had enough of me, but if ya do find him, tell him ‘m sorry.“
Tim froze. Go figure she’d remember his stupid name years down the line. His hands were shaking. Damian had turned to look at Tim, eyes as big as saucer pans.
Yeah, there was no way he could convince them that wasn’t him.
Absently, he rubbed at the make-up concealing his scars. They’d paled further with age, but Tim could tell they were there anyway.
“RR, stay exactly where you are. Robin, use force if needed.“
or: an unfortunate run-in with the Joker leads to Damian asking questions. Questions Tim really wishes he wouldn't ask.

In the weeks to come, Tim found himself spending more and more time with Selina who never even asked if he wanted to go home. His parents had called, once, just to make sure the new help was doing her job but truthfully, Tim hadn’t even noticed that they had a new help.
Every second that he wasn’t with Selina or in school, he spent researching, making quiet inquiries and bribing officials. All from the comfort of his home. He knew that he was much to weak to actually fight the Joker but he had other options. Arkham was possibly the least secure secure-prison that ever existed and most of the people were trained to look the other way when it came to the people visiting or leaving.
Obtaining thallium wasn’t really a challenge either, he just bought some via Drake Industries, which produced some optical lenses in which it was needed anyway. No one bat an eye and he got the poison within two days.

Tim always carried pepper spray with him — always. Living in a city like Gotham, that was practically a given.
It was especially necessary when one was ten years old and currently sneaking around in the shadows of the night.
Something touched his shoulder, and on reflex, Tim pulls the trigger, before he can catch sight of green pixie boots.
Oh no!
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry Mister Robin, Sir! Are you all right?”
“What the fu- I mean frick, kid?”

It’s almost eerie how much these nights mirror each other. Only this time Tim’s pepper spray is joined by a knife.
But it’s not Robin he attacks this time, it’s a weird guy in a red helmet, and the spray can do nothing against that!
Tim is sure he’s never seen helmet-guy before, so why does he know Tim’s name and insists on helping him out?
Or: Tim goes out at night to take photos of the Bat’s. Twice, he meets Jason. Only once, is it Robin. But Jason’s suddenly two feet taller and wearing a red helmet. Something’s clearly wrong here.

He was woefully unprepared for the butler that opened the door. He hadn’t even thought about what he was going to say, so he blurted out the first thing that came to mind; “Surprise, it’s a boy“ he made actual jazz hands… Honestly if the butler closed the door in his face, he would deserve it.
