“Hey, hey, I’m en route to you now, kid. Just hold on a bit longer for me, okay?”
Through the din and fog of his ringing ears, he could only vaguely hear the older man's voice attempting to soothe him. And it was in that exact moment that he wished he had been more forthcoming with Tony.
Maybe then he wouldn’t be in this situation, with an ominous man walking towards him—tilting and turning sideways, like he was melting. With a start, he realized it was, in fact, he who was the one doing the tilting. He couldn’t seem to stop himself, and his head smacked painfully against the pavement as he dropped.
Silently, he sent a prayer out into the universe, hoping something would be merciful enough to answer it.
Please, please, please, let Mr. Stark find me.
or; Everyone Peter has ever cared about has left him. A stint in the foster system, a radioactive spider-bite, and one secret identity later, leads him to the conclusion that enough is enough and he does the only thing left that he can think of: he makes a run for it.
He just never expected that Tony Stark would be the one to find him.

Tony steeled himself for something. A tearful embrace, maybe a hug that turned into an iron grip around the throat. Instead, Peter dropped his duffel on the couch he had just spent an hour perfecting. A small death inside.
Right,” Tony muttered, clearing his throat. “So—”
“When am I going home?”
Sharp. No warm-up. Kid even left the earbuds in, music leaking loud enough to prove the point: not listening. Then he flopped onto the cushions with an undue hardness.
Tony swallowed the wince. “Wow. Okay. Straight to the big existential. You only just got here.”
Peter shrugged, gaze fixed somewhere past him. “Yeah. I know.”

Placed with Skip Westcott, and left to suffer alone, Peter had a rough time of it until Tony Stark showed up with a mysterious internship and a chance to escape his own living hell. But as Skip grows more violent and Tony starts to get suspicious, how will Peter handle it?
Or after Aunt May is killed in a crash Peter is placed in the care of Skip Westcott, and it goes about as well as you'd expect
