"I stopped playing the past few days," Nagi tells him. He's lifted his gaze to the window now. It's beautiful outside, blue skies and thick white clouds, and Reo wishes he was out there with Nagi, having any conversation other than this one. "I've never felt so free."
"It's okay to take breaks," Reo mumbles. "It's natural."
At last, they make eye contact. Nagi looks so much calmer now, like he's finally escaped some great burden. Selfishly, Reo wishes that he'd look worse—that he'd be more upset over shattering Reo's life into little pieces as he says, "I'm not going to play football at all anymore. I'm quitting."

Summary
In theory, Kuroo was ethically opposed to conning innocents. In practice, he could never resist watching Kozume ply his trade.
It always started out the same: Kozume’s victim of the night would let him break. Kozume would hesitantly line up his cue behind the cue ball, elbows tucked, form all over the place. So of course, to be a good sport, his opponent would give him some pointers—shift Kozume’s upper arm, adjust his wrists, let their fingers brush for a moment too long. Despite the language barrier, a definite something lingered in the air.
(The scent of blood. Kuroo knew that, Kozume knew that, Victim #1 did not.)
Kuroo’s job is to pour drinks and watch out for hustlers. He’s a great employee: he makes a mean martini, and whenever Kozume Kenma comes in to hustle pool, Kuroo sure does watch.

The Internet is also dead certain that Reo is in a gay situationship. The Internet, mostly, feels for him.
“I’m so sorry,” says Anri. “We never expected him to be so… sincere.”
Nagi gets eliminated, haunts the narrative, and makes a comeback. Reo tries his best to deal, but it’s all made much more difficult by the fact that everyone and their mother saw him cry on live TV.

Nagi's hands tighten on Reo's waist reflexively, fingers digging into flesh hard enough to bruise. Good. Let there be marks. Let there be evidence that this happened, that they happened, that for one night Nagi Seishirou was allowed to touch Mikage Reo and call him his.
"You sure?" Nagi forces himself to ask, even though every cell in his body is screaming yes, yes, take what he's offering before he changes his mind.
Reo laughs, bitter and beautiful. "No. But I don't care. Do it anyway."

He’d seen the way Nagi looked at Isagi, back in the second selection. Reo could still picture it clearly. The moment had been carved into him like a wound, and even now, he couldn’t help but run his fingers over it, again and again, as though that would help him understand it better. As though that would help him understand Nagi better.
It would’ve been fascinating, if it hadn’t been so utterly heartbreaking. Nagi’s eyes, usually glazed with indifference, had sharpened in a way that bordered on awe. There was something raw in the way Nagi looked at Isagi then — not too different from how a person might gaze at the first sunrise after years in the dark. It wasn’t just admiration; it was hunger, fascination, and a spark of emotion that Reo had never been able to coax out of him, no matter how much he tried. To Reo, that look had lingered at the edge of something unspeakable, something irreversible, something Reo could not recognise.

A particularly freezing wind blows over them. Silence, until Reo lets out a chuckle. “There you go again, saying such ridiculous things.”
“It's not. I'm serious.” Nagi’s cheeks puff up as he pouts. Reo pinches them, eliciting a long whine from him. “owww…”
“And I'll always give you the same answer.” The fingers on his cheeks loosen and instead, cups his face as if he's a fragile thing. “Nagi, you're my treasure. I can't be your mate.”
Refusing to be in a world line where Reo isn't his mate, Nagi ties their strings of fate together.

Nagi is, as Reo is finding out, super dangerous. That same gentle voice is saying, flat as ever: “Reo, stop thinking so much. Just rub it or something. It hurts.” As if Reo's hand isn't pressing down on her massive hard-on.
Reo makes a strangled noise. “You— you can’t just say that like we’re talking about, like, passing drills or something!”
“Do you wanna talk about soccer instead? Would that help you get it going?” Nagi asks, tilting her head, utterly unfazed.
“No!” Reo explodes, face hot.
“Then touch me,” Nagi says simply.
(or: nagi assumes that reo's word to help her out with anything troublesome extends to, well, everything. reo doesn't really know how to explain that he wasn't really envisioning public handjobs in that category.)
