She shouldn’t have said that. It’s hard, the rules now are so different from what they were with her friends and with Hopper. She is supposed to lie all the time now. But it’s been so long since she was a real person, she'd like to pretend that Jane could be real.

When Mike had told him they were still friends, Will thought that would be the end of it. One slightly awkward conversation where Mike confirms that he’s not totally grossed out by Will being gay and they never have to address it again. It was so much better than Will had feared—and so much less than he had hoped, but he always knew his hopes meant little—it was pretty much perfect.
Except Mike didn’t leave it at that.
Apparently he was serious about how he “should’ve been there for him,” and he’s determined to be there for him now.
“There’s got to be somebody for you in Hawkins,” Mike insists. “Robin and Vicki found each other, and that was in the middle of all the Vecna shit. Now that this is basically all we have to worry about, it’ll be a snap.”
This is torture.
