Summary
Husk hovers in the hall, obscured by the half-closed door, and watches Angel stare at his reflection above the sink. He pinches his cheeks, examines the softened edge of his jaw. He rolls up the hem of his borrowed shirt and turns this way and that in the mirror, studying his waistline. He pinches the thin layer of cushion around his hips like he seeks to dig his fingernails in and rip the flesh off. He grimaces and goes to turn on the shower.
Husk slinks back to bed before he can be caught spying. Angel shows up later with minty breath and a fake smile. He slides under the covers beside Husk, cozying up to steal his body heat. Husk slings an arm around Angel’s clothed waist and buries his nose in the crook of his neck, inhaling the scent of soap and faint cigarette smoke. “G’night, beautiful.” Angel hums sleepily in response.
It isn’t until many, many months later that Husk pinpoints this night as the shit-stirrer. He was so distracted by the puffy eyes and dour mood that it never occurred to him that Angel didn’t eat dinner.

Summary
Angel arched his back to press his chest into Husk’s. “Mm… Keep talkin’ sweet.”
Husk chuckled. He stood up to gather a set of soft pajamas for Angel from the dresser behind him, “Well, I love you. We knew that already, though. Ain’t a surprise.” He knelt in front of Angel again and palmed a tub of lotion from the bedside table. Warming the lotion between his palms, he started to massage Angel’s feet, ankles, and calves with long, sustained motions.
Angel moaned.
“And I think you’re incredibly talented. You sing, you dance, you cook, you… fuck, Baby, you’re insanely talented.”
Angel snickered when Husk pressed a kiss to his inner knee. “That tickles.”
“You have a beautiful laugh, and your smile?” Husk groaned. “I’m obsessed with your smile. It’s the best part of every day.”

Summary
Angel strode down the center aisle of the small courtroom, then sat beside Husk.
Husk was sitting in one of the benches in the courtroom as their small group waited for their turn. He was dressed in plain black slacks, a white dress shirt, and a pale-pink tie with Angel’s pink lipstick prints all over it. He turned to Angel with a grin, taking Angel’s hand in his own. “Hey, Beautiful. How’re you doin’?”
“Nervous.”
Blinking, Husk asked, “You are?”
“Yeah. Pretty… Pretty confident that’s what it is. But I know that I wanna be here, so… not as nervous as I could be.”
“Oh. Alright, then. Glad you… know what that feeling is, then.” Husk kissed Angel’s knuckles and whispered, “You ready?”

“Hey, can I come with ya to the house today?” Angel asked the next day, poking his head into their shared bedroom as Husk got dressed and holding up a large box. “I have a buncha clothes that I don’t wear, but I wanna keep, so… I can put ‘em in the closet?”
“Sure, y’can. You’re always welcome.” Husk pulled on his socks. “Maybe we can stop for groceries on the way so y’can do some cookin’. That way, you’re not bored outta your skull.”
“Ooh! Yeah! I can bring my dance bag, too, so I can practice in the basement.”
“If I wasn’t concerned about him eatin’ paint ‘n shit, I’d say that we could bring Nuggets.”
“Nah, he’d chew up the new stuff. I’ll text Niff t’come over ‘n check on ‘im.”
Husk nodded with a smile. “C’mere.” He patted the bed next to him.
Angel, instead, sat in his lap and wrapped his arms around Husk’s neck. “Hi.”

After considering for a moment, Angel shrugged. “I dunno…”
“Please? I have somethin’ I wanna show ya.”
“I…” Angel sighed. “Francis, I don’t… You’ve been treatin’ me like shit recently,” he said bluntly.
“I haven’t meant to.”
“You’re… hidin’ shit, ‘n keepin’ secrets…” Angel shrugged. “Don’t really know if I wanna… go anywhere. Just wanna stay home with Nuggets.”
“Anthony. Baby. I promise, everything will make sense if you just… come with me. I swear it on my life. If you… If it doesn’t, you can be mad at me forever, but… please?”
