Ren only remembers two things: a task that he has to do no matter what and the words If only we had met earlier. Knowing nothing about what any of those things meant, Ren latches on to the only thing he does know: Akechi Goro. But keeping his promise to stay by Goro's side becomes increasingly difficult when it slowly becomes clear that his memories may hold a horrible truth about his existence and why he's here.

What do people normally do when finding out that their favorite barista—at the café they frequent often enough to rival their home—was moon-shining the biggest japan idol at night?
Akechi doesn’t know where the influx of fan-girls came from. He’d assumed the area was hosting an event for some celebrity today? Whatever it was, it was an inconvenience at best. He had to get this assignment in before tonight. And he’d assumed the girls before him at the register, handing the barista a hot pink, teddy bear endowed rose. with a flushed face and shaky hands was just a coincidence.
"That's him!” he catches bits of conversation from the girls earlier, lingering by the drink pick up station. “Kurusu-san, I can’t believe he’d work here!”
In his small refuge corner of have, after class, he does a quick google search. His tiny respite of peace during Valentines is shattered by the fact that his barista is—
Akira Kurusu. Net worth 3 billion. He used to see his face every year on New years TV, through business meetings with his dad.

Summary
10 years after the events of the Metaverse, Ren’s adult life is gray.
Grappling with alcoholism, anxiety, and crushing levels of self-loathing, every night Ren goes to sleep and lucid dreams to escape the waking world crumbling around him.
In his lucid dream, he builds a perfect, quiet version of LeBlanc. He conjures a Dream Akechi, who is programmed to just sit idly in a booth and drink coffee, letting Ren project his worries and loneliness onto him.
It was the perfect escape. Until the night Ren tried to die.
The sweet hallucination vanished, replaced by a Dreamkechi that refuses to let him quit and drags him back to the living, waking world - no matter how much it hurts him.

After Maruki's palace was dealt with, Akira found himself alone. Not that his friends weren't there, but the pain was so grand it felt like part of him died with Akechi when that palace crumbled to the ground. Now, back to his hometown and picking up on his previous life, he needs to deal with all the pain and longing of realizing his own feelings towards the Detective Prince. One day, he decides that texting his number like he was still alive brought him some comfort, and it turns into a habit. Akechi became a silent Confidant to his day, grocery lists and loneliness. It was great, he was finally feeling better, even if the messages were never delivered.
Until, one day, he received a reply.

Goro Akechi works for the Shadow Operatives investigating a series of strange and increasingly unsubtle changes in reality. Through his work he learns of Ren Amamiya, a man he no longer remembers. Something about him is suspicious and Goro just can't keep himself away.
