Summary
“The shrine sleeps,” Hongjoong whispers in Jongho’s ear on a frigid night that seems to stretch on forever.
“Then one would expect me to sleep as well,” Jongho responds coldly, like the December snow falling upon the jangseung guarding the shrine. He turns under his blankets, pushing his face into the pillow. Hongjoong’s presence has become a nightly occurrence. He slips into Jongho’s quarters as the moon rises high and the bustle of the day is nothing but an aching memory. Jongho pretends he does not anticipate the gumiho, sometimes even climbing under his sheets prepared for sleep, but Hongjoong is hardly deterred. Every night they perform a small ritual to abate his hunger. Sometimes he leaves quickly, but other times he requests Jongho pluck a song on the haegeum or recite a poem. On rare occasions, only three times now, he asks for more.
Tonight would be the first time without ritual proceeding.
In which Jongho does not fear the fangs against his jugular.

Summary
On solstice and equinox nights, the veil between worlds supposedly grows thin, allowing creatures of legend to find their way into the human world. It's old superstition, but Yunho's family throws masquerades on the occasions, with masks to conceal identity and music to ward off evil. In the thrall, Yunho is supposed to find himself a partner, but his only interest is the drinks being served. That is until the party's pianist grabs his attention and won't let go.

Summary
The mermaid inside the wide, colorful, coral filled, glass tank before Jongho is indeed a boy mermaid, complete with a bright pink tail. His large hands press against the glass and a soft but clearly entertained smile is on his face as the gaggle of children around him excitedly crowd the tank. His sharp features paired with that expression make Jongho curse at himself for ever being put on this earth. Mingi is so boy. Like rippling abs and soft brown hair with little shells in it boy. And Jongho is so gay.
In which Uljin is home to Jongho and his younger sister, and its aquarium is home to a certain man dressed as a mermaid.

Summary
Every seafarer knows that mermaids are a commodity in black markets. Their flesh holds power beyond what humans can comprehend. If consumed, a mermaid will give its attributes to whoever has eaten them. Their tears are said to heal and eating enough blood and meat is said to grant immortality, but Hongjoong wouldn’t know about that. He’s far more interested in consuming the tongue and language center of the brain so as to communicate with the beasts at the bottom of the sea.
With the power of mermaid speech, Hongjoong plans to leech their secrets from them to better fish them up. But it’s only a great sense of unease Hongjoong gains when he catches a mermaid with stars in his eyes and discovers the creatures are far more human than what he has been told.
In which Seonghwa is an otherworldly beauty from the depths and Hongjoong cannot fathom how easy it is to love him.

Summary
The forest is older than Minghao knows, despite how much of itself it shares with him. Minghao lives off its generosity, foraging for wild mushrooms and berries to feed himself and kindling to keep his fire lit. The forest only asks for fertilizer in exchange. Once a year its branches part to make way for a stranger and once a year Minghao plucks a pomegranate to give to them. He dissects the poison fruit, as he’s done so many times before, feeds his visitor the ruby seeds, and leads their failing body to lay against the roots of the Great Red Oak without a guilty conscience. However, Seungcheol’s arrival is different. The forest knows that he is different. Despite it all, Minghao has a job to do… if only he can go through with it.
In which the heart of the forest urges Minghao to heal.

Summary
Hongjoong pulls up to the park in his baggiest jeans. They pool around his ankles and have pockets for days and he loves them. He had cut up three pairs of goodwill pants and a shirt to make them. Two part denim and one part pinstripe suit with a dash of red flannel. They’re awesome. Plus, when his shirt rides up just right, they make his waist look particularly grippable. Which is a win, because Yunho’s hands were made for gripping.
Hongjoong pulls up to the park in the biggest, baggiest pair of jeans Yunho has ever laid eyes upon. The amount of pockets is uncanny. The denim is deniming. Yunho has never seen jeans like this in his life.
In which Yunho keeps a lighter, a pipe, some loose weed, and a beat up cigarette box filled with joints in the pockets of his Carhartt jacket.
