Suguru spun, knife raised, but it pierced nothing. There's only the glade pulsing faintly. Only the breeze that wasn’t breeze, fingers that weren’t fingers ghosting the edge of his thoughts.
“I didn’t do this for you.”
“No,” the voice purred. “You did it because you couldn’t stand the thought of me laughing at you again.”
Suguru turned back to the carcass, fury in his breath, in the way his fingers twitched like they wanted to tear the voice from the sky. But inside—beneath the rage, under the cracked armor of denial—something small and treacherous thrilled.
The God’s voice curled around his spine like heat.
“Come back tomorrow,” it said, fading, wicked. “I’ll show you what your hands are for.”

The President cleared his throat. “Good morning, everyone. Yosano is starting a project that will be sponsored by the Agency. Please support her in whatever ways you can.”
The announcement seemed to grab the attention of everyone in the room, even Ranpo, who put down the chocolate crêpe he was enjoying. The detectives around him looked expectantly at Yosano while Dazai looked just over her right shoulder. She passed a stack of paper to Kenji, who took one and passed it along.
“It’s an initiative to spread awareness for sexual assault and harassment in Yokohama,” Yosano announced. The room somehow grew quieter than it already was. Yosano’s face was steeled, it showed no weakness, only confidence and conviction. Dazai both admired and envied her.

Hello! I've just moved to NYC, but I feel like a lonely fish out of water. It's hard to meet real people here, and even on social media everyone seems distant, so I decided to follow my dad's advice and ask the local paper. Do you have any non-tourist recommendations for places to eat?
I'm desperate for a human suggestion, not some Google search or unnamed article.
