    Summary

"No wife, no family, no children, no friends," she said after a long pause. "He's destined for a life of solitude and bloodshed, forsaking and being forsaken by those he loves." Her lips tilted up into a wry smile. "It's a tragic destiny for a mortal man, but a perfect one for a transcendent. You'll only be inviting death and misery into your household, keeping him by your side."

How wonderful! The entire story ties up in a nice little hair band right at the end. I profess I don't hold too much fondness for ORV-- I read it over half a decade ago and the details elude me, despite its recent rise to popularity recently-- but I must say that from my vague recollection, it was a decent story, with a fairly interesting ending, to say the least.

In any case, such context isn't truly necessary for understanding this fic, but y'know. I really like stories with excellent tie ups and continuity such as this one. Very inspiring. The sort of sinking realisation that creeps in as one reads through each paragraph is well done, ending off with a perfect dash of dawning resignation at the end. After all, Joonghyuk's destiny is something he fulfills, not one that befalls.

Thank you for the satisfying story! ^^

Could be vaguely considered pre-romantic relationship, or developing friendship/qpr. Usually I opt for three ways-- Su Xiyan, TLJ, and Shen Yuan/Qingqiu, but this is still pretty satisfying. I like the intentional obscurity of naming TLJ's true identity until the very end, dramatic irony and the obvious pros to doing so(on SQQ's side).

The relationship development is quick and enjoyable, little plot bits and facets of SQQ's character thrown here and there-- disappointment over how a rare spiritual beast could have been killed, playing his qin for the brothel ladies, his mindset on poverty and corruption...

I quite liked the referral of Liu Qing Ge as a mannerless stampede. It really does fit his character to a T. Ending is slightly open, but I do hope SQQ ends up running away with TLJ, or eking out a life here, away from the stifling sect. And slapping Liu Qing Ge up the loins, becuase he "killed" Shixue. Not an ounce of remorse, too.

Thank you for the story. ^^

Murder mystery cat Shen Qingqiu and Rogue Shen Yuan, in a small village. Good study, characterisation, with heartwarming moments and racing danger, but not enough that it completely overshadows the developing relationship-- even plays into it, with both parties learning more about each other and becoming friends, as well as developing their own feelings.

Seems to be abandoned, which is a pity. Still very good though, and an engaging read.

Thank you for the story. ^^

    Summary

There was an aura of mystic whisperings around Zhao Qinglin. That surely the weight of future visions untethered him from this earthly coil as it did many Seers. What a crushing responsibility it must be, to subtly shift fate this way and that. How tragic, how sad- this is all reasonable for why Zhao Qinglin ignored the urgent request for the third time in a row! Or perhaps some tragedy was prevented by his non answer...

That was how simpletons like his fellow Peak Lords rationalized it.

Shen Qingqiu thought that perhaps Zhao Qinglin was just a lay about. Kan Zhanbu was the tiniest of the twelve Peaks. The last that Shen Qingqiu had heard, the Peak only boasted one Elder, two Masters, and five Disciples- none of this counting Zhao Qinglin himself. Unless he spent all day gazing into the sun, he had more than enough time to pick up a brush and do his job.

The flap of a butterflies wings can cause storms halfway across the world. How might the winds of destiny shift if a heart is touched?

    Bookmarker's Notes

Sweet, sweet. I last read SVSS near a decade ago, when it hadn't reached the hands of popular(?) culture yet. My opinion of the original story is... it's workable, I do suppose. Better than Hazbin Hotel at least, but more restricted in terms of raw potential and characters. Having developed my taste in stories a bit more, I find that SVSS has certain characters and archetypes that appeal to my taste, but an unfortunate lack in spectacular execution, however. It's not a bad story. It just lacks a certain... flair, how do I say it so? Pity me when I admit that despite all previous indications, I find that the canon Pairings/dynamics leave some to be desired. Which is strange.

In any case, where canon may gap open at the seams, a passionate writer may step in. Perhaps one may think it high words for a one-shot soul-mate story, but pardon my intrigue in fascinating powers and a unique character description. Though it does go the typical route of such fictions, plot devices and all, should I still ignore the little details of world-building?

It is rather ironic that my interest in these stories mostly focuses on the rags to riches to torture of Shen Qingqiu. And Shen Yuan, the soft modern man with the medieval Modesty of an incubus and all the Compulsory Heterosexuality of a self-proclaimed sigma male. More fascinating, perhaps, than the obvious fall to rise to break then vengeance of the unstoppable, beloved Luo Binghe-- Universal Key, Demon Emperor, Ultimate Protagonist.

Irredeemable, weak, twisted, Shen Qingqiu. Nature and Nurture. Soft, enduring, gentle Shen Yuan. How wicked must you be, that your only redemption is silence? The kindness of another, stealing your body and turning it pure of your presence.

I see now, the inklings of what it is that repulsed me from the original Canon story. It is not a bad story, no. Not even necessarily lacking, or inadequate. It just lacks satisfaction. A sort of meaty crunch, chewing and slobbering in the salivary amylase of a good mixture of comedy, introspection, and action. Filling, but not thoroughly memorable.

    I have gotten distracted.

Good story. I liked the details about the way divination may or may not work, plus the comedy involved. Shen Qingqiu's aversion to men and thus, it's effects on his sexuality, laudable. The fact that despite being the weakest peak, the divination peak lord is still well able to protect himself. The undercurrents of interpersonal conflicts. Short and sweet.

Thank you for the story. ^^

Somehow, a narcoleptic transmigrator is working as a stablehand in the Henituse County.

That's fine, there's no way Cale would care enough about this random boy working with the horses, right? He can just stay here unnoticed, never getting involved with the story...

Agh, if he knew he'd transmigrate, he would've at least read more of it first!

    Bookmarker's Notes

Absolutely incredible. As a stand-alone story, I think I genuinely would read it-- no care for the fanfiction background.

Just for the stunning main character alone, I would. An engaging blend of humour and dark elements, this take on the original setting inserts difficult elements and much more visceral confrontations of not just canon events(torture, ostracisation etc) but underrepresented issues like chronic illness, disability, detachment and more. Just the right amount of comfort to balance out the discomforting parts. The power of the main character is sincerely unique, but simplified enough not to just be merely conceptual babble-- demonstrations are shown, and while it may seem underwhelming compared to the surrounding cast, it's true nature and implications start setting in over the course of the story. It is also a wonderfully thought out mesh with South's self-sacrificing, deprecating, nearly passively suicidal demeanor.

Of course, much of this is also personal bias. I've got a terrible fondness for disabled, mentally ill/depressed characters that are overpowered(See: my grand collection of bookmarks). Plus, they should have a loving, intense support system, and (typically) at least Aro-ace adjacent, or some version of neurodivergent but capable in at least one specific area. They also tend to self-sabotage. And it's a fantasy/magic setting-- adore supernatural elements. PLUS! So specific, but I have this thing for characters that cannot live without one another-- codependent or toxic or mirror opposites, just as black does to white, or red to blue. It's an addition if they symbolise some fundamental part of the universe, or clashing ideas of reality. Sun and moon, strength and magic, ice and lightning, good and evil, speed and silence, origin vs growth. My own characters tend to always follow this set of ideals.

It's admittedly indulgent, but so what? Life is meant for living.

Thank you very much for this story. ^^ <3
