The wrath of battle brews and burbles throughout the plains, rippling fires across all of Fódlan like a lover who betrayed it. The earth is encrusted with blood, with gore, with the viscera of soldiers who had given their lives for a cause they could believe in. Cries ring sharp through the afternoon sun—cracking with acceptance, burning with fear.
There is a war, and Felix shouldn’t be stumbling through its masses, thinking of nothing else but his best friend.
He should be off to the Faerghus camp to clean himself off. He should be reporting to the Professor, sharpening his blade, watching the boar from a distance as he rants and raves and rages. Anything else.
But he thinks of his best friend.

The library felt stuffier than ever, the sunlight and the old books more oppressive than they were just moments ago. Caspar felt sweat on the back of his neck as he stared at Linhardt, wide-eyed, processing that.
“I didn’t mean to upset you,” Linhardt said after another moment of pause, his lips downturned into a frown. “I thought you must know that.”
