Summary
“This is a great apology,” Steve says, sarcasm thick.
“I already said I was sorry,” the man responds impatiently. He clearly regrets coming to make amends, and Steve’s own frustration is growing again. What is it about this man that just pushes every button Steve has?
“Forgive me if I don’t feel the sincerity, ” Steve says. The man glares.
“Take it or leave it.” He turns to leave again. Steve remembers his other dilemma.
“How about instead of an apology, you extend my stay,” Steve says. The man stops walking.
“What?” Bucky looks at him like that’s the last thing he expected him to say. Steve nods and then smirks.
“For free. Two weeks.” They hold each other’s stare, Bucky’s eyes unforgiving. Steve has to school his face to hide his desperation, but he’s running out of money, and he can’t go back to New York.
He hates how badly he wants to know what this guy’s deal is. They stare at each other for a whole minute. The air is crisp and tense.
“One,” Bucky says and then gets in his car and leaves.
OR
Steve runs away to Nantucket where he meets a very angry, very closed off baker who doesn't know how badly he wants to be loved until Steve shows him.

Summary

Summary
It’s the same as the way nobody even blinks at two men together, which is a fun fact of reality that Bucky still can’t get enough of. He can press a hand against the small of Steve’s back, into the curve of his waist, over the nape of his neck, and the worst he gets from the peanut gallery is a knowing smirk or an exasperated eye roll. No suspicious frowns, no disapproving glares, no pointed looks to quit acting like a queer before he gets them in trouble.
The best part is how Steve always shivers a little, leaning into it as if he craves Bucky’s touch as much as Bucky craves to touch him, and fuck if Bucky doesn’t want to touch him so badly right now that his palms ache. Steve’s looking all casual but delicious in jeans and a tee, braced over a table and deep in conversation. Bucky wants to go and smack his ass with his metal palm to make him yelp. Bucky wants to slide an arm around his shoulder and watch his face go all soft and gooey. Bucky wants to sink his teeth into the bruise-yellow skin at his nape and make it bleed, then go a little higher, roll the mating gland under his tongue and feel it split beneath the power of his jaw —

He freezes, scissors just barely pressing against the weft of hair and his other hand dragging the section down roughly, as if to yank the remainder once the blades manage most of the job. But for all that he stands still, the door continues opening out; moving honey-slow in the stretched moment of his pulse pounding in his ears.
“- it gets caught between the tiles,” Shouta murmurs, looking right at him with one hand on the doorframe. Scissors in hand. One of his bangs ragged and half-torn out, patches on the back of his skull. A tuft over his ear, and blonde hair scattered over the floor.

Bucky stomps his way to a stop in front of Steve. Steve looks up at him and smiles. His flat glare is all Winter Soldier, chilling to the bone, but the restless clench of his fists is Bucky. So is the stubborn set to his jaw when he demands, “Let me scent you.”
Without waiting for an answer, he begins to strip off his gear and set it in orderly rows on the coffee table. Derringer, holster, SIG, holster, mag-pouch, IFAK, Skorpion, belt, vest —
Steve’s eyebrows steadily rise. Surely, he thinks, Bucky hadn’t brought all those grenades for him. Bucky’s glare turns murderous when he notes Steve’s bland amusement, but by the time he’s done, dressed down to a t-shirt and cargos, he still hasn’t moved from his expectant spot in front of him, so Steve gathers up his wits and says, “Uh, sure, Buck. If you want.”
And then, without any pomp or ceremony, he’s got a lap full of serum-enhanced super-soldier.
or: Bucky’s memory leads him astray sometimes, but it works out just fine in the end.
