He’s ice-cold on your back as you carry him, and the Autumn evening air does you no favours. Normally, if you were carrying him conscious,—say, for a broken leg—you’d be complaining about it, poking fun at him, going through your usual back-and-forth: the half-venomous, half-playful banter you’ve built up between you over the years. A jab about him flying over himself, met with some “witty”—stupid—remark of his own, on and on until it turned into some big ridiculous thing, a mostly-ironic argument that would eventually find its way into your gaming sessions as a regular inside joke. Years from now, you’d hurl it at him in excitement between stocks of Super Smashing Fighters, and remember fondly that time you carried Berdly across the street and probably made his broken leg even worse along the way.
Of course, that’s not possible now. It might never be possible again.
