Summary
“Well, I’ve got to get a proper job, haven’t I?” he says, hands in pockets, eyes flickering elsewhere. Ridiculously, John’s first instinct is to remind him that he was the one that said better paying gigs were just around the corner. But it’s a stupid thing to say, it’s a gateway to begging. Anger flares, dark red and biting, within the flurry of confusion and hurt now blooming painfully. But it all gets stuck in a lump in his throat, the pill too hard to swallow or spit out.
“You’re giving it up?” is all he can muster.
“I’m trying to tell you-” Paul shifts his weight on his feet, still not looking John in the eye, “Yeah… I- I have to.”-
Paul leaves the band in 1960 to build a life with Dot and their baby. John carries on alone.

"I want to go find me real dad," said John.
Paul quite nearly choked on his toast. The keys kept twirling.Paul McCartney turned seventeen years old in the summer of 1992, and he only wanted two things out of the holiday: to play music, and to laze about, at least until he had to go to work.
This plan worked out excellently for him until the first day of July when John Lennon turned up on his doorstep. Holding the set of keys to a brand-new motorbike, and with the intent to track down his long-lost biological father. After a bit of resistance, Paul went along. Because how could he not?
Thus began their thirty-day road trip across Great Britain: a journey that changed not only Paul’s perception of the world at large but his perception of himself and the people he thought he knew inside and out.

Summary
Paul can’t get over the sensation that there are two entirely separate sets of people in the same place. One set is their physical bodies in the room, where Ringo is talking and Paul is sitting on the bed and George is watching silently and John is looking crestfallen. The other set is just four beings of consciousness, trying to communicate like they used to, through thought and through imagined bars of music, notes snatched from the ether and knocked together, or stacked on top of each other, or spread out on the floor like old photographs.

"Paul always said that he wished he was not a boy who cried; but he was.
John wished that he could speak, but the words stuck in his throat as he watched the tears run down Paul's beautiful face and drip down onto the yellow linoleum floor of the kitchen of the house that he did not live in anymore. He watched helplessly and could not move or speak for a long instant stretching on as the rain began to fall and the windowpane rattled."
Or, the one where they fall in and out of love over the course of several years and John develops a metaphorical fixation on a jet called Concorde. Of course, everything works out alright in the end.

'My god,' he said breathless, feeling like a child all over again at the Fete, flushed in the crowding presence of the boy leaning over his shoulder as he hunched over the piano,
'What took you so long? I've been worried sick.'"In an alternate universe where everyone is divorced (don't worry about it), John Lennon is still shot outside of the Dakota on the eighth of December, 1980; but in this one he lives.

Paul likes the attention, craves it, John knows, though he’ll never be able to get Paul to admit to it. Like a show dog, he thinks as Paul stumbles on the snow again, scowling and waiting to be collected up by one of the crew, wrapped up in his black furs and snow boots. It’s greedy, really. Someone should put him in his place, train him to behave better.
