“Pon farr,” Ed interrupts him in a burst, apropos of nothing, and Stede blinks at him.
Then, his face goes darkly green, blushing so quickly that Ed takes a second to worry that he’s going to lose consciousness.
In the end, though, Stede just chokes out, “What?”
“I know, I know about— pon farr,” Ed elaborates. “I know you’re going through it right now.”
Stede stares at him still, unblinking, apparently weighing his options. Ed watches his expression flicker; he apparently discards several different things he could say before finally settling on the truth, replying with, “I can assure you, I will not let it affect my duties on board our ship as your co-captain.”

Summary
They’ve lived here on the island for half a year, and Ed is happy, of course he is. He wakes up in Stede’s arms more often than not, and on the “not” days Stede is usually up making him tea or arranging fresh flowers on the nightstand.
But every so often Ed catches himself holding his breath. He’ll be looking at Stede in the candlelight and be struck, as if by lightning, with the hurt of that night on the dock, when he waited for Stede until the sun rose. In those moments, Ed feels the world go off-kilter, like he’s looking up at his life from underwater.
While out thrifting for furniture and decorations for the inn, Ed comes across a painting that leads him on a journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance.

“Eddie, you sound stressed,” she tuts, striding into the room and kicking the door closed behind her. Stede watches wordlessly as she climbs onto Ed’s lap, straddling him.
“What are you doing, Annie?” he asks softly, eyes closing when she starts to rub his shoulders.
“Oh come on, we used to have fun like this,” she argues.
His eyes open, glaring at her. “You weren’t very fun tonight.”
Stede has to agree, but even so he watches Ed’s hands travel up her thighs below the robe.
“I think I know what you need,” she tells him, dropping her lips to his neck. Stede holds his breath, shifting uncomfortably in his chair, not quite sure what’s happening.
“Erm…would you like some privacy?”
Anne’s head snaps up, twisting behind to look at him. “No. Care to join us?”

It’s “Fun and Games” but the house doesn’t burn down, Ed and Stede stay the night, and Anne has some ideas about how to help these two make up.

Stede Bonnet is newly divorced and building a new life. He knows he wants friendship, community, and ideally passion. The problem is, he's got no idea what that means in practice, or how to find it.
Over a series of nights at Jackie's, he'll start to figure out who he really is, and maybe find love along the way.

Stede brings his arm up so his cheek has something to rest on, and he breathes a little sharper as he resituates himself, and the entirety of Ed’s body feels like it’s floating with both the residual panic of before, and the overwhelming calm Stede has managed to conjure in this tiny bathroom now. And thank you doesn’t seem anywhere near big enough for what Stede has given him, and Ed’s not sure he’d be able to say it again without his voice breaking something awful, but he can try. He can sure as fuck try.
