Samira looks at her. “What?” Walsh is already grabbing a coat on the desk.
“Come on, you must be tired.”
“Pretty sure you’re the one who basically pulled a double between us.” Samira realizes her words had let off on an easy hook. “I mean, sorry—I’m not saying you can’t drive. It’s just—thanks for the offer, but I think I can gamble some rain on me.”
Walsh juts her chin toward the doors, eyebrow raised at her. “That kind of rain?”

Alicent turns and looks at her daughter with a frown, not immediately understanding the meaning of her words. Helaena is gazing at the city, hands gripping at the banister with such strength that her knuckles are turning white. Before Alicent can ask anything, her daughter speaks again.
“We should leave,” repeats the young woman, voice gaining conviction. “You, me and Jaehaera. We should disappear where no one will find us. Far from their war and their greediness.”

Her desperate swing makes the rock connect with his temple. A harsh strike to that vulnerable spot that has felled so many larger men before him. Alicent hears a sickening crunch before the man looming over her crumples to the floor at her feet.
Shock grips her by the throat as she looks down. Eyes widening as she stares in alarm at the ever-expanding pool of blood spreading beneath his still form. The wound in his head is bleeding profusely. (Is he–is he dead?) Her breathing stutters out of constricted lungs, her heart races as the realization catches up to her: she killed somebody.

“Did you know? About us?”
“I suspected,” Garcia admits, sees the half-mortified look on Baran’s face and continues. “She gets soft around you. Not in her words or her body. But something just relaxes a little. No one else sees it.”
“You do,” Baran says quietly.
“Well, I have practice seeing Trinity.” Again, it stings. Garcia looks away. Baran looks away.

It’s a topic both of them have studiously avoided, probably in favor of not having to admit just how abysmal the present tense is in that context—but here Cassie is, revealing to her newfound friend and longtime coworker, that she is so horny she could rip her hair out.
Dana pauses, cigarette halfway to her mouth. “That long, huh?”
She raises a singular eyebrow and Cassie tries not to squirm, mentally berating herself. “Well—yeah. Too long, really.”

The words rush out in a panicked vomit, unable to stay inside even as Emery stops on the sidewalk in front of her.
“I know. I get what you meant.”
Emery hesitates for a moment, jaw working as she thinks. “I’m different at work,” she says eventually. “Can't really be soft, can I? But I'm glad I can be with you.”
