Somehow, despite having spent 147 nights together in the same space before they got together (not counting time on the jet, even when the red-eye flight meant departing around midnight and arriving in Virginia as the sun rose), there were still things they hadn't realized about each other's usual sleep routines. Spencer's nightmares were obvious: thrashing and clawing and screaming that he won't choose. Dereks's...it took awhile for Spencer to even realize Derek had them, because the man who gave comfort to everyone else and took none for himself even tried to panic quietly.

Summary
For all the things that Spencer remembers so vividly about those two days, the one that keeps coming back to him over and over again is the crack his glasses made as he hit the ground. The arm had snapped as the left side of his face crashed into the hard earth. The broken end dug into his temple, raw edges of the plastic slicing open his skin. The corresponding lense had cracked from the outside edge, fractures spreading across his vision.
Spencer has to get new glasses after his previous pair broke in that corn field. This small, seemingly insignificant change is the catalyst that drags him deeper into the chasm of trauma he's been trying to drown out since Georgia.

Reid stops walking and turns to face her, brows furrowed. "You asked me to stop talking about that."
"Only because we were in a movie theatre. I'm interested."
His brows furrow further, eyes narrowing as well like he's trying to suss out whether or not she's lying to him, and then drift over her shoulder, to some point behind her, and widen.
She frowns, turning around and trying to follow his gaze, but she can't figure out what he's looking at. There are still quite a lot of people milling about even at this late hour, though she supposes that's Vegas—or the outskirts of Vegas—for you, but nobody looks at all threatening. The most out-of-place person is a sharply-dressed man carrying a briefcase amongst all the people in going-out attire, but it's not like he's brandishing a weapon at them. "Reid, what—"
"Dad?"
OR: William Reid is a terrible parent, and Emily Prentiss is a wonderful friend.
