Summary

Summary
Euijoo meets Nicholas in a bar on Manhattan Beach Pier during the 2021 International Surf Festival. Nicholas is lean, blonde, bounces off the walls and laughs loud. His voice is deeper than it should be and he’s got little to no game, but Euijoo sticks around anyway. Nicholas is built and he’s hot, his shirt tight across his shoulders, his hair wild around his ears. He’s bright like sunshine and his lips are sinful when they wrap around the neck of a beer bottle or the rim of a glass of coke.
Nicholas doesn’t live too far from the pier; they walk side by side on the beach, talking about LA. Euijoo’s accent seems to stick to the roof of his mouth, and he pushes his hands in the pockets of his boardshorts to keep himself from reaching out, feeling Nicholas’s pulse at his wrist, seeing if it beats as fast as he talks. Nicholas takes his sandals off, toes digging in the sand.
Nicholas says, suddenly, cutting through the random topics they’re fleeting on, “I don’t really do this,” which seems like a lie until he adds, “With guys, I mean.”
To love is to change. Euijoo and Nicholas change each other, over the course of 5 summers.

Junghwan's hand doesn’t leave Youngjae’s shoulder, warmth still seeping through so many layers of fabric. “Why don’t you tell him how you feel?”
Youngjae glares. “What?”
“Seems like you’ve been bottling things up for a long time…” Junghwan mutters. “I don’t know what happened, but… I don’t know. Maybe it’s not too late. If there’s things you never got to say.”
“Idiot,” Youngjae says, the word slipping out with a chuckle before he can really think about it. Luckily, all he hears from Junghwan is a scoff. His hand never leaves his shoulder. After a sniffle, Youngjae says, “Sorry. I just… I promised not to.”
It’s not exactly true. Youngjae can’t promise not to do something that was already impossible to begin with.

Summary
“What are you doing here?”
How is he supposed to explain this? That he's following a breadcrumb trail left behind by versions of Hanbin who haven’t met him yet. He thinks of the Hanbin who cried in his backyard, who didn’t speak Mandarin, who didn’t even recognize him until the last second. Who looked at him like he was a lifeline just before he vanished.
He thinks about all the things Hanbin won’t say, and all the things Zhang Hao has figured out anyway, by paying attention, by collecting every fleeting moment and trying to stitch them into something whole.
He doesn’t know what happens next. But he knows that he wants to find out, and that he’s tired of waiting.
“I’m coming to find you.”
Zhang Hao is just trying to survive college when Hanbin appears in his dorm room, and then vanishes before he can ask who he is. Over and over, Hanbin returns, sometimes older or younger, and always out of order. Zhang Hao may not know what the future holds, but he knows he's slowly starting to fall for the time traveler that keeps coming back to him.

Hao tends to the plants and teaches Hanbin their names in Chinese, a bright smile on his face every time Hanbin gets the pronunciation right. He puts a pink flower behind Hanbin’s ear, tucking it gently against his hair—his fingers lingering to drag a warm path along Hanbin’s cheek.
I am safe, Hanbin tries to assure himself, and doesn’t believe it.
(Or, Hanbin is a wildlife researcher rescued from the woods by a stranger who is far more than he appears.)
