Summary
They were waiting on him, he could feel it. He could also feel the reassurance in the back of his throat as well, telling them he was fine, don’t worry about him, burning him like acid reflux. It should’ve been easy to get the words out, these were all people he cared about. Mozzie, Peter, Elizabeth, all watching him with love and worry in their eyes, but the words were burning him from the inside out.

“Peter shook himself from his momentary reverie in time to notice Diana, half turned around in the front seat, staring at Neal with a look of unhidden shock on her face...Diana had only really ever seen the CI at work and was clearly unprepared for how open Neal looked as he slept, uninhibited and...young. Achingly young. There was a soft expression on her face that Peter had felt on his own more than once before.”
Neal falls asleep on a car ride, Diana has a questions and a few realizations, while Peter acts as a pillow. Basically, it’s sweet.

A girl scoffed. “That’s dumb.”
“I bet their clothes are really warm,” Danny said loudly. “And the minute their power gets shut off, they call the people right away to get it back on. And their shoes always fit, ‘cause if they don’t, then they just get new ones.” He dug his fingers into the dirt. “And there’s always food in the fridge and they all have pet dogs.”
Neal felt his own cheeks redden. It made his insides squirm, knowing that Peter and Diana and Jones were seeing all of this. He could just imagine them comparing the words the kid on the ground said with his present day behaviors, matching cause with effect like pairs of playing cards.

Granted, he hadn't really been alive long enough for it to count but hey, he had seen a lot of girls in that short period, okay? And this one? She was drop dead gorgeous, like a supermodel, and Kon had no idea why his heart seemed to be beating faster just by looking at her from across the room.
He briefly contemplated not doing anything and just ignoring her existence but that was the exact second she looked up in his direction. Her blue eyes widened by a fraction before she gave a soft, small smile and turned away to continue the conversation she was having with her friend. Kon could only see a part of her profile now, most of it hidden by the long curtain of slightly wavy black hair that complemented her pale skin wonderfully under the disco lights.
If just seeing her was enough to get his heart beating faster, seeing her smile was enough to make it stop. Kon didn't stand a chance.
