Jaskier hides the stab of pain at the implication that Geralt might be glad to see him, instead he offers another simple bow and thanks Vesemir for his hospitality before fleeing into the room.
“Oh, you fool,” he whispers to himself as he falls into a nearby seat, “you bloody heartsick fool, you should have run. Why don’t you ever run?”

Summary
The bard doesn’t seem to notice Geralt lurking behind him until Geralt clears his throat, a low rumble, which makes him turn.
“Goodness,” he says. “Hello. You’re very… loomy.”
Now she’s closer, Ciri can see his face properly. His hair hangs lank around his face; stubble covers his chin, a little too long to be stylish; his eyes above are a bright shining blue. And yet there’s something faded about him, his clothes just slightly worse for wear, his cheeks hollow.
“Jaskier,” Geralt says, almost desperately.
After the mountain, a reunion. It doesn’t go that well, to begin with.

"Go on then," she said to Geralt, who wouldn't look at her. "Tell me what terrible thing you've done."
He flinched, and for a moment she wanted to take it back—swear him to silence, so that they could just go on in peace, so that she would never have to know.
But her curse was that she always wanted to know, whatever the price, and she said nothing as he took a deep breath and began to speak.
"When we first met," he said slowly. "The djinn...and my last wish..."
"You wished to save me."
"Yes, but—" He shook his head. "My wish was about...about us."
(In which Geralt finally tells Yennefer about the djinn wish, she makes some poor or possibly good decisions, and the raven is more than it seems.)

It's two children, he realizes as they slowly sit up. They look about eight or nine, not that he's much judge of children's ages. One is a girl, dark-haired, in a shabby dress. The other is a boy. His clothes aren't much better, and his hair isn't much lighter than the girl's, but his eyes—
His eyes, Jaskier realizes with a distant sense of horror, are gold like a cat's. His mind makes one more valiant effort to keep from connecting the obvious dots and recognizing them, and then it finally does.
"How in the unholy fuck," Jaskier says to no one, "did this shit happen?"
