Shane felt almost giddy. Disbelief pulsed through him at the confirmation that this was actually happening.“Holy shit,” he said quietly, and then shaking his head when he realized that wasn’t the answer to Ilya’s question. “Yes! Ottawa International Airport. Just wear something inconspicuous, and I’ll text you where I park.”
“Oke,” he heard Ilya’s hesitation and felt apprehension tighten its claws into his chest.
Was this the moment it all became too real for Ilya? Would he back out?
“What is inconspicuous?” Ilya finally asked, and Shane almost doubled over in relief.
“It means don’t stand out,” Shane explained without hesitation or reproach. “Just wear something that blends in.”
“Ah, yes,” Ilya murmured his understanding into the phone, his voice taking on a playful lift for his next words. “Do not worry, no one will notice me, Hollander.”

Summary

When Ilya hears something aimed at Shane on the ice, he would like a word. Many words.

“Say. It. To. My. Face,” Ilya repeated, every word spit out from between clenched teeth, his accent heavy, anger dripping from his voice.
In his peripheral vision, he saw Bood and Dykstra approaching and he held up a hand to stop them. This was between him and Petrov. He would take care of this on his team.
“I will not do that,” Petrov finally replied, his eyes darting to somewhere behind Ilya and then back. “You’re my teammate.
“I’ am your captain,” Ilya hissed. “You say it to him, you can say it to me.”
Petrov swallowed, and for the first time, glanced around him as if to ask for help from his other teammates, none of which would come to his defense right now because Ilya had told them to hold.

“Rozy!” Cliff shouted through the phone and Ilya winced. “Where did you go? You have to get back down here.”
Ilya sighed, rolling his eyes. “I have flight in the morning, Marly. I know what you look like drunk. I do not need to come see.”
“Come on, Roz,” Cliff almost whined. “Even Hollander is down here holding up the bar or maybe it’s holding him up. Kinda hard to tell at this point. Gonna let him be the life of the party when you won the fucking award?”
The fog in Ilya’s brain shifted and scattered at the name.
Ilya’s stomach sank.
Fuck.
Fuck.
Fuck.“How many has he had?” Ilya asked, pushing himself up from the bed, glancing around the room until he saw his dress pants and shirt still on the floor by the end of the bed.

Shane didn’t hear from Ilya again for the rest of the day. He had just crawled into bed, and was about to slip on his glasses on to read the book from his bedside table when his phone buzzed
The message he found when he opened their thread was not what he expected
Lily: I think you packed wrong shirt by mistake.
The photo was Ilya’s hands holding Shane’s white t-shirt. He stared at the picture as heat rose to his cheeks, biting his lower lip as he tried to figure out what he should respond. Before he could start typing another message appeared.
Lily: This one is too small for me.
Shane scowled, his embarrassment quickly turning to annoyance.
Jane: It is not. We are the same size.
Lily: Uh, no. We are not. I am bigger than you.
Jane: Asshole. You are not.
Lily: You have seen me without shirt. Do not pretend.

“I'm sorry for waking you.”
“You didn’t,” she replied at once.
